Let me preface my response by saying that a lot of my Prince favorites, I believe, are deemed “inferior” by some (maybe a lot) folks on here and I personally prefer “R & B/Funk Prince”
So, yes, it was a conscious decision based upon my new found relationship with Jesus Christ (yes, He’s real to me, and I know He’s not to others, so no need for anyone to bring that to my attention). Ever heard Prince say while playing one of his songs “Oh, I just got pregnant on that one”? … well, let’s just say I can relate; so definitely needed to switch up what I was listening to
R&B/Funk Prince alternative: William Murphy, Vashawn Mitchell, Mali Music, Marvin Sapp, William McDowell (some pop/rock sounds) Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, Deitrick Haddon (some pop/rock sounds)
NPG Prince alternative: LaCrae, Trip Lee, Tye Tribbett, T-Bone
Pop/Rock alternative (not a big fan, so I didn’t miss this sound much): Jars of Clay, Jesus Culture, Toby Mac
Did they/can they take the place of Prince, definitely not, but they brought enough of what I like to keep me satisfied
Thanks for asking

In the 80's i was liking the 'Around in the world in a day album' because like some tracks on 'Purple rain' (title track, let's go crazy, even 'When doves cry), the songs remind me of the sixties (Hendrix, James Brown, The Beatles), and it was then something really fresh again in music among the musical landscape of the time.
However, he said in an interview in 2010 : "It's what I always dreamed of when I was a young musician, playing in the basement. Music is my life. It's my trade. If I can't get it out of my head I can't function. Someone told me they saw me at my peak, but how do they know when my peak is? I think I'm improving all the time. When I listen to my old records I'm ashamed of how I played then."
I like the 80's era of his music but i also think he was improving all the time.

I became a fan back during the 80's and after Diamonds and Pearls was released, I wasn't keeping up much during the 90's except for hearing a few songs and reading some interviews here and there. Musicology made me become interested again after seeing him at the Grammys that year and being inducted into the RRHOF. Then after that, I lost touch again, but nonetheless, I was always a fan of his and was happy to see him pop up at some awards shows over the last few years. It was cool just to hear that he was still doing his thing and making great music. Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~
The only Love there is, is the Love We Make~ Prince4Ever

i really dont think his music got worse ,the break out of hip hop and rap created a new sound in the business and the media goes where the masses go. there are sooo many songs that are great that were written after 1989. again it becomes a popularty contest. he is the best and the amount of music written proves it

You're right on that - so many new sounds were created during his time - it's easy to forget how much moving and shaking the man saw. That fact that he was such a total badass throughout that whole time is pretty astounding haha
