It is different if you name after a family member as there is a blood tie there.....but that is just how I feel about it. Naming a baby is such a personal thing and one both parents must love and agree on that name.
Not really explaining this well, but I hope you get what I mean.
PS and I kind of think the fact you have asked the question to start with you are not really confident in the choice? I do like the list of alternative names for Prince though - they are great.

[Edited 9/25/16 14:20pm] I was told it was weird by a non Prince fan friend of mind so i wanted to run it by like-minded people...

It's not weird - as long as you don't mind your kid being mad at you, maybe for life. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm pretty sure they're both big Prince fans, don't know if that's why they named the kid Sirius Seven... Or was it Seven Sirius? One of those.

This is not cute, and does not speak to your connection to Prince at all.
Seriously, the thought that you would name your child Ahmir or "a female version" of that (?) with no clue what the name is about, where it's from, or why, is quite pathetic and instrusive really.
Give your child their own identity, please. Teach them about Prince's work instead of saddling them with names for your sake. That's much more loving, really.

Well since Ahmira is a recycled name from my FIRST pregnancy doesn't seem too far fetched to me. Ahmir...means Prince , its Arabic. I knew this years ago and I don't understand how you got that I didn't know the meaning. This is why you motherfuckers on this site kill me. ..you don't know how to disagree without being a dickhead.

Once again that name would have dual relevance since both of our Numerology life path numbers are 7

Have you considered a good ol' fashioned name like Shaneekwa? Or Kevanté? Or Courvoisier? Or Nate? “Sometimes People Don't Want To Hear The Truth Because They Don't Want Their Illusions Destroyed” — Friedrich Nietzsche

I love the name Prince. I would name my son Prince Rogers I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

My sons middle name is Amir...I knew exactly what it meant and the origin....he was directly named after Prince as his music literally saved me from death. I'm very proud of it and don't give a fuck about any one persons opinion about it. He is my child and I gave him a fitting name as he is my only son and he is truly my very own Prince. One of the greatest perks of being a mom is that you get to pick the name! Congrats! I do know my son has several children in his class with unusual names, i.e. Royalty, Messiah and Prophet. When they were younger it wasn't an issue but as they have transitioned into middle school it has become something the other kids pick on them about and they're hard names to live up to. IMHO "Amir" is not nearly as bold as "Prince", most are aware its Arabic in origin but not familiar with its meaning. One compromise would be to use a Prince related name as a first or middle name along with something non-Prince related. When your child gets older, if he/she dislikes the Prince related name, they can just choose to go by the other one or vice versa. Best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy!

I've always wondered whether it was Prince not liking his birthname — on some deep psychological level — being the impetus behind him renouncing his birthname in favor of the squiggle. “Sometimes People Don't Want To Hear The Truth Because They Don't Want Their Illusions Destroyed” — Friedrich Nietzsche

I gave birth to my only son and only daughter in '86 and '89, respectively. Back when everyone that knew me, knew I was a die-hard, hard-core, in 'til the end of time, Prince fan and seriously wanted to name my babies Prince and Princess. Unfortunately, I'd have had to literally kill way too many people for the "self-defense" plea to hold up in any court of law. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I dont think its weird-people look for baby names from every corner of the galaxy. If want to name your baby Prince-go for it. I love it!! If not I love it to. My mother took my name from a tv actress, she saw the name in the credits and fell in love with the name, not the actress. When I was born my parents changed the spelling and now its me. I love my name and I would trade it. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |
