Turn Offs! Which one aspect of P turned you off most? or at times? For me, I loved the balance of spirituality & sexuality. But when 1 side won, dogmatically so, it became a problem for me. Examples: -The misoganistic lyrics in an otherwise great album -'The Rainbow Children'. -The claims that he requested Wendy & Lisa to publicly renounce their lesbianism if they wanted to play with him again. -When he said in a Guardian interview that maybe Shariah law wouldn't be a bad thing because you'd always know where you stood. You? [Edited 9/8/16 17:32pm]

I didn't care for the way he treated the women in his life. If the book Possessed is correct he treated Susannah Melvoin horribly. Just pretty much a male slut with no concern for the pain he caused others.

That's a really tough one to address. Or know about. On one level he was the foremost supporter of female musicians. On another level, it felt as if he had cultural, aquired atttitudes from the '70's that stinked a bit...

This can be said for just about EVERY big time star. It seems to come with the territory. And, going in, most of the women seem to know this.

Maybe so, but it seems each and every female in his life felt they had a unique and special relationship (And maybe they did! - just don't let them check the dates too closely) Having said that I don't doubt his love & respect for women.

Great topic. I hope it doesn't get locked, as I personally think it helps the grief process and is healthy to talk about the not so perfect side of someone after they pass, as not all of us are Saints! . I agree with the womanizing stuff. Yuck. His lyrics spoke so often of wanting true love, a long term relationship, etc. but I don't think he was capable. . I understand the point that most musicians are probably that way, but IMO he wasn't like most musicians in most all other aspects of the industry. . Also, that point in his career when he wouldn't speak, knowing that he was coming across as aloof or superior. I remember one interview (can't remember when or who interviewed him) but he would whisper his answers to Mayte and she would have to answer for him. That was just weird. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

That was 'The Sunday Show' a BBC show & Veronica Webb interviewing him. Very annoying show but I enjoyed the interview. There are 2 versions out there. One intercut with a 'Gold Experience' tour sound check at Wembley. But in that period he could do no wrong for me.

I want to jump to his defense a little. I think Prince had trouble really loving a woman fully . I think he had this trouble because his mother abandoned . He had walls up. His mother did not teach him love and trust. Another thing I think, Prince was so intelligent, after a while ,if the woman no where near matches his intellect, he would get bored with her I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

Certainly not meaning to attack or dis him. And totally get the complexity of his interpersonal relationships. It just interests me - because we all feel so close to him, what were the moments when people noticed a difference in thinking.

Like who? I been catching so much hell for my comments today but here it goes, Mavis, Shaka, The old dude with the small head, it just turned me off. I really just like seeing Prince perform the vocals and stuff by himself I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. Ha, That's funny. I kinda know what you mean, but I think they are great & have their place, once they're not dominating during a gig. (Would love to know who you are thinking of when you say - 'The old dude with the small head'.) Funny. [Edited 9/8/16 21:36pm]

Seriously though Im glad his religion brought him some peace and happiness...hell we all need to get closer to our creator. My only thing is that being apart of that religion may have affected his health decisions and that makes me so very sad.

Especially because the early days of hs career he pique people's curiosity by seeming to be ambiguous where sexuality was concerned. Therefore likely gaining fans who are in that community, and then turn around and shun them... Agreed about the Jdub stuff too. To each their own. Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

Interesting artical, a bit disspiriting. Resulting in him denyingn he had every said in & was misquoted. However, The Guardian claimed they had the tapes. Kicked up a bit of fuss at the time...

Yeah me too - and I hated the "clap our hands" that was yelled out by Shelby - it just seemed so unnecessary to me - but hey, I dont really care, I was there to see it and so grateful for that. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

His arrogance. I like some of that attitude in his music, but his haughtiness when expressing his beliefs about social issues, religion, culture, and so on in interviews was often unbearble. It just seemed like he was convinced he was right about everything, even when he was so ineffective in expressing his (in my opinion, usually uneducated) viewpoint.
His proselytizing. His homophobia. His legal threats against fans. Chemtrails.
I hate how he seemed to become a symbol of the thing he stood against in his earlier work. The personal freedom. The pairing of the carnal with the spiritual. Rejection of social norms. It's disappointing. But that's just me.

When I was younger and he showed up to the red carpet with Manuela, I was super upset. I told my mom "He's MINE!" hahaha I was 10 or 11 I think... So basically anyone he was dating, since it wasn't me.

But like ya'll I loved him too!...sigh...

The preaching, mainly. Glad it lessened over the years though. Just stick 2 making good music. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
