Hello...Purple Rain...It's like P arranged it for dramatic effect just for this performance.

The poor guy being worried about all the rain, electric this & that, the safety worries...and P wanted more rain. aweome performance. and he brought his A game. the world got to see what we fans already knew.

He was incredible and arrogant and humble and so wonderful. He'll never be forgotten nor his Super bowl performance topped.

The part that always makes me super emotional, apart from when the sheet goes up and that amazing silhouette is 30 ft tall, is when just after he strikes that last chord on the guitar, he lifts his hand up and shouts "YES!" in such a heavy exhale, you just KNEW he was so relieved and proud that everything had gone off perfectly. The "can you make it rain harder" line was a typical confident Prince line, but I read an article from the manager/promoters he was working with at the time who said that deep down he was actually quite nervous leading up to the broadcast, and was extra hard on everyone in full-scale rehearsals in Miami in order to make everything be perfect for what he knew was possibly his biggest live performance moment ever.

Plus he looked hella fine that night. Damn.

Seriously, a good friend of mine who does not like Prince AT ALL (he's more of a rap-rock guy) told me that he thought it was amazing, and the next day he downloaded guitar tabs for Purple Rain and was trying to learn how to play it.

That's a very astute observation about his outfit colors. I never thought of that. It makes perfect sense because turquoise and orange is not a common color combination.

Too many artists on stage lip syncing songs that don't translate well to a big stadium; too many older acts that really showed their age (looking at you Rolling Stones and The Who); too many productions full of random artists that don't really belong together (like Aerosmith, Britney Spears and N'Sync). Prince was just Prince on stage with his guitar and the best marching band in the country. A marching band that wasn't just a prop; one that was brilliantly used throughout the performance. Looking back at other half time shows very few from 1991 onwards utilized a marching band. I think it was brilliant that Prince did. One thing associated with football (high school and college) is marching bands. And I think his song choices were brilliant. He wasn't there because he was promoting a new album and playing a bunch of songs nobody knew. He's Prince yet he throws in three covers all of which flowed and fit the set perfectly. His Purple Rain solo when the white sheet comes up and all you see is his silhouette is iconic and will forever be remembered. And of course playing in the rain....it was the first and only (so far) Super Bowl where it rained. I know U2 usually top people's list of the best Super Bowl half time show but I think that's more to do with them performing right after 9/11 than anything else. For me no performance before or afte tops Prince. Sorry Michael, Bruce, Madonna, Beyoncé. Prince has you beat. Anyone else agree?

I watched it live and just remember how great it was. I was in college. After he died, I watched it again because I really didn't remember any specifics about the performance, just that it was fantastic. I am a special education teacher and I showed the SB performance to my students (who were in grades 1-3) right after he died and they loved it!

It was raining the whole time. Not just for Purple Rain.

I recently read Bruce Springsteen's description of his appearance as the half-time entertainment at a Super Bowl. He said it was like no other experience in his lifetime - the intensity of the preparation and the actual show itself was overwhelming. And he didn't have to work in the rain!

It was amazing, i saw it last thursday, til now i thought this performance was overrated but now i see it's not. Beautiful performance, he looked beautiful, so handsome. This is the best half time, second is Paul and third Madonna then Michael's perfornmance.
