Love that part because I've always feared that would be me, even when it came out when I was 14. Wishuhvn has broken a heart or two and hopefully, I don't pass without forgiveness. Well let's hope that I don't break Mrs. Wishuhvn's heart either

I love that song as well. I listened to it the night he passed, and tried my hardest not to cry while watching this and other videos on MTV.

it was my favorite on ATIAD, in fact, i am an indian who grew up on mainly black music, so id' never heard no crazy shit like that. great tune, should have been a single but the timing probably wouldn't have worked, it was the era of what? madonna, flock of beagualls. Opened up a whole world for me, i wanted to hear every beatles song, every jimi song, every psychedelic song, changed my life.

Paisley Park is one of his iconic songs to me. It is distinct and beautiful musically and lyricallly. It sure let me know that there was more to his heart than his narcissitic image at the time. It was key, along with Condition of the Heart, to making ATWIAD one of my all time favorites.

I was 18 yrs old, just bought ATWIAD and after listening to it, knew exactly what I was going to do with my life. I was going to Paisley Park.

I look at that first of many "colorful people who's hair on one side is swept back" photo in that passport of mine and see all the stamps from ATWI my lifetime and can't believe the life I've had and that I did make it to Paisley Park and I owe it all to Prince.

Back to topic: Loved this song and the LP when it came out, and to be honest had completely forgotten about it. Amazingly, when I read the above lyrics, I remembered the words and tempo immediately. One of his many songs that really are timeless.....

interesting, i was just looking a rolling stones record guide for all of his albums, in the 80's, atwiad gets the lowest score for any of the 80's albums. some people didn't like it, Jimmy jam was pretty critical of it along with some critics. I do remember the usa today review lauding it because, well, the white rock critics recalled the psychedelic era with great fondness. Oddly enough, prince, as he did many times, would not give the main group the critics named, the beatles, as an influence. He insisted it was a funky album and it's true. one critic tried to say that ATWiad was more temptations psychedelia than beatles, I don't think that's true. Also, not everything on the album is even that far out, the ladder, Poplife, America,condition of the heart aren't really all that psychedelic are they? Tambourine isn't either.

I like it because every song on it I fully enjoy on some level. No idea about what the critics are talking about regarding eras and all that.

some of them raved over it, well, as i said, because they liked the nod towards what they considered white psychedelia. I guess, overall, the public and the critics were very mixed. He lost a ton of the fans from PR on this album, and I believe that's what he wanted.
