Appreciation for the SONG ONLY: "Paisley Park" Let's express our appreciation for the song "Paisley Park" from the "Around the World in a Day" album. Please do not say anything that may be interpreted as having to do with the upcoming tour of the venue Paisley Park because the "luv4u" moderator will impose a lock and shut down or delete the thread as she did earlier. What does everyone think of the song and the song only? It's a beautiful SONG!

LOL! It is indeed a fabulous SONG! Very psychedelic (and Beatles-esque, no matter how much he tries to deny it)! [Edited 8/26/16 19:26pm]

Thanks for sharing your perspective on the SONG. Whatever you do, please don't say anything of the past "celebrations" held there because "luv4u" moderator will shut down this dialogue about the SONG & force us all to only discuss the song in the upcoming tour of paisley park thread which is a topic NOT being discussed here whatsoever because this thread is only about the song.Let us all show our love 4 the song only!

Love this song and it's imagery. It's been my internet network name forever Love the stories told throughout the song and the part where he sings, "There is a woman who sits
Love that part because I've always feared that would be me, even when it came out when I was 14. Wishuhvn has broken a heart or two and hopefully, I don't pass without forgiveness. Well let's hope that I don't break Mrs. Wishuhvn's heart either

I love it. Seems like it's the most optimistic song in his collection of socially-concious songs? Well, until "Clouds" came along.
1999 was pure 80's latch key kid anxiety. Crystal Ball still makes you believe he could see the future. SOTT tells you that stuff around you is for real going on. The Future tells you he could see the future.
but Paisley Park SONG is an afterlife full of forgivness.
"And life won't be so bad. In Paisley Park."
I've always loved this genre (of his).
Thanks for starting this thread. [Edited 8/26/16 20:07pm]

I love that song as well. I listened to it the night he passed, and tried my hardest not to cry while watching this and other videos on MTV. Erin Smith

it was my favorite on ATIAD, in fact, i am an indian who grew up on mainly black music, so id' never heard no crazy shit like that. great tune, should have been a single but the timing probably wouldn't have worked, it was the era of what? madonna, flock of beagualls. Opened up a whole world for me, i wanted to hear every beatles song, every jimi song, every psychedelic song, changed my life.

Paisley Park is one of his iconic songs to me. It is distinct and beautiful musically and lyricallly. It sure let me know that there was more to his heart than his narcissitic image at the time. It was key, along with Condition of the Heart, to making ATWIAD one of my all time favorites.

I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

Its a great song. Very good lyrics. I would say e relatively complex idea told in a very simple an understandable way. I did take that lifetime lease. Must have been a key song for prince, as he did not name a certain bit of real estate we are not discussing here paisley park as well. There is a park that is known 4 the face it attracts Colorful people whose hair On 1 side is swept back The smile on their faces It speaks of profound inner peace Ask where they're going They'll tell U nowhere They've taken a lifetime lease On Paisley Park

His count-off at the beginning is one of those rare moments on a released track that his "stoned" voice made the cut. Reminds me of how he sounds on the When Doves Scream rehearsal. And that's just the first 10 seconds of the song, and it gets even better from there. Love it from start to finish. . I *like* the 12" version but don't completely love it. The quick cuts and edits of the "Paisley Park" chants always hug me a bit. But you can't argue with seagulls and cool guitars. Love that track. Both Paisley Park and Pop Life are fantastic simple pop tracks on a more complex prince album. (Insert something clever here)

It's also perfect that on the album it segue ways to the other best song on the album: "Condition of The Heart"...

Wow... what a song! I was 18 yrs old, just bought ATWIAD and after listening to it, knew exactly what I was going to do with my life. I was going to Paisley Park. I look at that first of many "colorful people who's hair on one side is swept back" photo in that passport of mine and see all the stamps from ATWI my lifetime and can't believe the life I've had and that I did make it to Paisley Park and I owe it all to Prince.

So Cool! Good for you! I am one of those that swept my hair back on one side too! When did you make it to PP? . Back to topic: Loved this song and the LP when it came out, and to be honest had completely forgotten about it. Amazingly, when I read the above lyrics, I remembered the words and tempo immediately. One of his many songs that really are timeless..... Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

interesting, i was just looking a rolling stones record guide for all of his albums, in the 80's, atwiad gets the lowest score for any of the 80's albums. some people didn't like it, Jimmy jam was pretty critical of it along with some critics. I do remember the usa today review lauding it because, well, the white rock critics recalled the psychedelic era with great fondness. Oddly enough, prince, as he did many times, would not give the main group the critics named, the beatles, as an influence. He insisted it was a funky album and it's true. one critic tried to say that ATWiad was more temptations psychedelia than beatles, I don't think that's true. Also, not everything on the album is even that far out, the ladder, Poplife, America, condition of the heart aren't really all that psychedelic are they? Tambourine isn't either.

some of them raved over it, well, as i said, because they liked the nod towards what they considered white psychedelia. I guess, overall, the public and the critics were very mixed. He lost a ton of the fans from PR on this album, and I believe that's what he wanted.
