Unreleased Glamorous Life

Just heard it. Sonded great even without all the intricate percussion by Sheila!

Quetions:

1. Who is the female voices on it (Jill?)

2. The drum track sounds like original LM-1 vs. the LinnDrumm LM2 on the released version. Did he really re program it or did they just change the sound in post-production?

No match for the Sheila E version, because the percussion is what makes the song!

I was wondering about the female voice too, until I realised maybe it's Prince singing falsetto? Not sure though...

The drum track is the same as the released version except for the heavy "Linn-clap" which was added. The bass drum pattern and hi-hat pattern are the same.

Just like the white winged dove...

It isn't Jill. There are no vocals on this demo aside from Prince's own, which include falsetto backing ones.

.

99.5% of the instrumentation, aside from Sheila's live percussion overdubs, including most of the Linndrum pattern, is identical, but not processed through studio effects gear and lovingly mixed as in the final release.

.

This demo, as the result of being a multi-generation tape copy, is also not quite at the correct speed, and the speed offset varies in different sections. Phasing is off also due to the leakers' desire to retain an OK quality stereo copy for themselves, so a certain aspect of the sound element is missing (which makes those high-pitched backing vocals stand out, and the Linn and synths to sound rawer than even an unmixed recording). It sounds a bit like the isolated single rear channel of the old Dolby Pro Logic/Stereo algorithms.

.

The actual sound of the demo tape is most likely ‘fuller’ than this deliberately crippled leak.

.

That's very interesting indeed.

Thank you for the analysis!
