Superfunkycalifragisexi is a bit rapey... or maybe it was my friend who did a dance with a knife to it at volume 11 to freak people out who were tripping on LSD one night in college in 1988.

Not even kidding.

If you don't mind me asking, is there any particular reason why you want to know this?
Anyway, I already gave my answer in another thread, where I quoted the "you'd get beheaded" part of What Do U Want Me 2 Do? I'm sure someone is going to mention Lust U Always or Extra Loveable, but I see those more as a young man bragging and fantasizing, a bit like The Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar or Midnight Rambler.

Seriously?
Uh (grunt)

Yesterday I saw you kickin’ it with another girl
You was all wrapped up around her waist
Last time I checked, you said you left the dirty world
Well it appears that wasn’t the case
Hey, I see you undercover like the CIA
Snatching little wigs from another bouquet – that’s French
I guess a man’s only good for a rainy day
Maybe your just another bearded lady at the cabaret
Ray Charles even saw you in the past before he saw me
Because nothing like you ever lasts for eternity
I got the receipt, babe
But where’s the guarantee?
I forgot, fake as a christmas tree
I guess I never kissed your lips, bearded lady
Oowee baby

Break it down

I wish I never kissed your (spits in disgust) ugh
Doesn’t replace the memory
Slippery lips of Da Bourgeoisie
Everybody step right up and come and see
The bearded lady, take me up to G

Instrumental break

Yesterday you was kickin’ it with another girl
You was all wrapped up around her waist
Last time I checked, you said you left the dirty world
Well it appears that wasn’t the case
Hey, I see you undercover like the CIA
Sun must be out, no more rainy days
Just another bearded lady at the caba(ret) – Ray Charles

C'mon man, you can't take a song that talks about a "bearded lady at the cabaRay Charles" seriously. This belongs in the "comedy songs" category. (Hey, that's another idea for a thread...)

No.

I just felt like talking about it.

Is this a redundant thread?

.

I don't think that the song 'Lust U Always' is misogynistic.

I don't see any hatred for women in it, just out of control obsession.

I just listened to it again on You Tube (Lust U Always w/lyrics) to double check and no.

No woman hating there.

I love the song 'Lust U Always'.

Oh, and I am female

I think that the song 'Daisy Chain' has some very sexist lyrics in it but I guess that isn't exactly the same thing as misogynistic.

Listening to Prince on shuffle the other day and Extralovable jumped out at me. I had to double check the lyrics.

According to azlyrics.com:

I'm on the verge of rape
I don't think you heard me (Ooh ooh!)
I'm on the verge of rape
I'm on the.

I'm sorry, but I'm just gonna have to rape you
Now are you going to get into the tub or do I have to drag you?
Don't make me drag you
I can be very cruel
Yeah!

Don't know exact lyrics, but Muse 2 the Pharaoh has been called out several times. The song features medieval religious diatribes about women serving her man while the man does all the big decisions.

Considering Prince dated mostly young bimboes whom he discarded when they grew up and got brains and opinions, and the fact more intelligent and erudite women rejected him and he two timed a lot. I would say he was very misogynistic and had litle respect for women beyond sexual playthings.

It's a bit presumptuous to describe his women as "bimboes', no? You don't know any of them personally.

Some of his lyrics may be seen as misogynistic but quite a lot of his songs were as far from misogynistic as you can get."you make my sun shine" as an example that just sprung to mind.

He wanted Vanity to be called Vagina and the group called the Hookers, if that is not all part of the shit/hop and dirty soul stereotype of "Bitches ain't shit" what is?

Plus he called then 6 after the nipple count, Prince used and abused young women most of his life. The more conscious sisters like Sinead Oconnor, Sheila E and Lisa (At the start before she went lesbian) and even Susannah only took that shit for so long, same with Mayte and Manuela.

It saddens me how little he thought of his girlfriends, books about him are full of tales about how forced girls to accept new personas, serve him, let him dominate their comments and thoughts. In return he cheated on them and sexed multiple girls at once. I am sorry, but the guy was a dog when it came to women, I think 2 live crew and the Rolling Stones have a better record than Prince lol

You're not wrong, but you present a picture which is significantly less complicated than Prince was. He was very controlling, absolutely true, in all things, and also with his lovers...and as we all know, he also had multiple partners a lot of the time (how much of this was cheating and how much was polyamory is unclear...but either way, not great for the women concerned in a lot of instances I'm sure)...so, yes...all true and all not okay. At the same time, almost all of the women you mention (bar Sinead, and afaik he didn't have a relationhsip with Sinead and who knows wtf went down there...all that business with the white eyes...)...still profess deep love and respect for the man, and I don't think its b/c they're bimboes or idiots, and a lot of them (and many of the many many other women he worked with (and let's remember how unusual it was for a male rockstar to give such prominent roles to women so consistently)) will talk about how much he encouraged them and gave them a sense of their own possibilities...so, that's pretty good evidence he didn't think women were only a thing for his sexual use...and yes, we can argue he did A&R with his dick, and he certainly did, and at the same time, he had a rock group made up only of women, none of whom he was trying to sleep with. So, it's not just one thing or the other. Lastly, for a body of work as sexual as Prince's, it's actually remarkable how little women-hating there is in it, if anything, the problem is idealization...and it is also remarkable how much concern and understanding there is for female desire, both in the work itself and in the performances. Most out and out misognynist men are not interested in female desire at all, in fact, it provokes a kind of horror you almost never see from Prince, what you get from him most of the time is the absolute opposite of that. So, it's not at all clear cut, and these tensions are, I think, one of the most fascinating and perplexing things about him.

Not like I love my guitar....

Again though, you're making assumptions about his private life. You don't know how he treated his girlfriends/wives. As for the Vanity thing, it's called publicity. And it's not as though he was forcing these women into skimpy clothing and not willing to do the same thing himself. It was all about garnering as much publicity as he could and it worked.

I thought that within the context of the lyrics the beheading line referred to the fact that in some countries like Saudi Arabia the penalty for adultery for a woman is capital punishment. The lines preceding that one are "I got a woman, you got a man, So we got to do what's right" which implies that they would be being unfaithful if they hooked up, and that doing so would be very dangerous in more restricted parts of the word. I still find it a cringeworthy lyric but I fail to see how it's misogynistic within that context?

^ Because it sort of suggests that Prince agrees with this policy. It almost sounds like a threat. And then the part that says, "dressed like that somebody's gonna get her", it all suggests that if a sexy girl gets in trouble, it's her own fault.

Yeah, actually I can kinda see what you're saying looking at it a second time, although there isn't really an explicit approval of such a policy Prince is here somewhat using the harsh penalty that adultery incurs in "other lands" as evidence of why they shouldn't get together. And you're right, that other line seems to display a really victim-blaming mentality which is pretty horrible.
