In 2008 at a fashion show Simon Doonan said Prince was limping badly and in obvious discomfort. Kevin Smith in his funny video says Prince couldn't help one day because his leg hurt and he had to rest. I can't find the reference right now but there was an article in huffpo saying he used a cane in his 30s. I take opiates for back and hip pain issues. If I'm taking enough to mask the pain I'll look fine and not limp. If I'm in pain I can walk perfectly fine if I don't want people worrying about me or noticing but it will hurt to do it and I'll pay for that later.

Prince was clearly limping when he walked from one end of that huge stage to the other, but him being the epitome of cool he swagged and styled it out . I know some orgers think he was fine then but with hindsight I think he was suffering at that time which makes me think that the rumours of his later surgery are true.

He did have a foot injury at one point. He talked about it on one of the Leno appearances (I think). Said it was from something on stage being in the wrong place when he stepped off.

I remember seeing that video years ago. That's one reason I believe that he needed the cane. He has been using a cane for over 20 years. He never kept any one look for too long.
There is video on TMZ (I think) that was taken a few weeks before he died, where he was running out to the suv and you can see him hop as if he did not want to put pressure on one leg. In the public autopsy report it notes that he had a scar on his right lower leg, so there was something going on with the leg, as well as the hip.
I hook one foot in front of the other which looks like a pose but my left leg is barely touching the ground and all my weight is On my right leg. But my close friends, family, and doctors know. It's a broken record, literally, but I'm so sad his chose to live on the Island of Denial. You can visit every once in a while but you cannot live there.

Ya know, whenever I see that BBC interview w/ P and Larry Graham from the same era, I always wonder if he was truly limping at the end of it when he stood up. He played it off and rose from his seat while they were having a laugh, but it looks like a limp rather than a stuttered, purposeful half step. Could be projecting here, but after watching that elevator vid, it seems even more possible that he was really hurtin'.

Injuries to rock stars is nothing new, and Prince is no exception. He was perfectly okay by the end of 1999, as evidenced in the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 video.
The conjecture about Prince being "clearly in pain" is just that - conjecture. Fans sure can project your own romanticized version of hip pain or whatever into anything you see with Prince, and 99% of the time it's totally untrue.
In the BET interview w/ TS he said that he had to cancel some shows in DC bcos of the accident. P said that his big toe bent back under his foot. i'm guessing that caused the problems in his right knee. there is a pic of him in white and gold, he is seated in front of andy,ida and john. you can see that he has a brace of some kind on his right knee.

Many of the commenters on that video see a man in pain. Not just in hindsight if you look at the dates.
