WTF! lol

Who is this wench that made that statement and how old is she? Must be white, lol. Then again she could be any color I guess. You should have asked her what did she consider danceable music? Or if you know what she consider danceable music please tell?

Come on leadline waiting on answers? lol smile

No, it is from typing on a cellphone on the subway. Add something to the conversation next time.

Funny. I've typed on my phone while riding the train and I still managed to spell correctly. And I did add to the conversation. It's not my fault you chose to only read 2 percent of it. I was just offering another perspective as you seem to be hurt by all the millenials that have done you wrong. Was just pointing out they are not all the same. Having an open mind might do you good. No worries.

-- I don't give two fucks about what you type on your phone. I read all of your nonsense and even explained about the staring at the phone comment. I don't any people my age or older who have said anything bad about Prince unless they simply did not care for his music but still nothing bad. Just the fact that young people don't care about music makes dislike this generation. Plenty of data exist to back up my statements.

Like the saying goes: "You can't fix stupid." It's obvious those people are "clueless" as to what Prince contributed to the music world. You can't get upset with them, they are just ignorant.

You know what ... I've learned not to talk to non-Prince-lovers about Prince. They just don't get it. There are people in my office who have repeatedly told me that THEY ARE SURE that he is gay and that he had HIV/AIDS.

Don't bother talking to them. That why I love this site (even with some of the negativity, even in this thread). I don't have to explain to anyone why he is so great. The ones who come to this website KNOW, they understand what it means to feel his music touch your soul.

i've learned over the years to not talk to people about any music you really love.
or books, or movies.

whenever you're really passionate about something and totally love it, there are
always those who don't understand or make stupid comments, even if they were
the ones who freakin' asked you what you like in the first place.

so now i just go with generic answers to these generic questions and those never
incite a stupid response. when you appear to like 'a bit of everything' people are
satisfied and move on to the next topic.

sure, it's boring to talk to people like that and you hardly ever discover any new
writers, films or albums from those type of conversations, but it also leaves you

with a more zen feeling and way less social anxiety lol

and then you just come here or other places where you know there are people
hanging out who either appreciate learning about something new, or talking with
you about things you both love.

and fcuz, your very good friends in real life, who you know actually listen for the
2 or 3 minutes you talk about a topic you're passionate about, without quipping
that someone is shit or boring or gay or whatever.

very last time i tried to talk someone into prince was waaaaay back in 1997. we
went to school together and always walked from the station to the school and
just talk about whatever. i always thought he was kind of a nice guy. then one
day *he* asks about prince, since i've always got his music on my headphones.

then come, par the course, the comments of 'he's such a stupid fag'. i'm like "eh?
why would you say that? you know i like his music a lot. you and i are friendly, so
there's no need to try to rile me up, besides i won't bite. plus YOU ask me what it
is about his music that i like'.

so then i make the mistake of saying 'he's not gay, he's even married'. to which
he says 'yeah lots of gay guys are, i bet he never even fucked his wife'. to which
i replied 'they had a child dude, whatever'. and then he goes 'had?' and before
long he says 'oh, no wonder, it's no surprise a gay freak like that can't make a
living baby'.

i mean, wtf? it's not that he said it about prince as such but the fact that someone
thinks something like that at all. i just couldn't look at him after that. i was like
'dude, i'm sorry, you probably think i'm overreacting but just ugh, no, i can't with
you anymore. besides, i'm gay myself, surprise. now don't talk to me anymore'.

smile

but it's not just prince, it's everything.

'so who's your favorite writer?'

bulgakov and rushdie, but also saramago and dostoyevski

'rushdie is SO overrated'

what have you read by him?

'i triend one of his books once, i can't remember the title but is was SHIT'

oh ok.

'and dostoyevski is boring isn't he? he just wrote for the money, like little housewife romance novels'

really?

well anyway, tell me what YOU like

You could never get Prince played in the main UK clubs in the 80's because his BMP was too slow. Occassionally you'd get one DJ who would agree to spin Kiss, and it either cleared the dance floor or left the ones doing a 'dad dance' from side to side.

There are plenty who see 'music' as a silly waste of time - shrug I gave up giving a shit what people thought about Prince in the late '80s.

Perhaps people are emboldened by the anonymity of the internet, but everyone has an opinion these days and theirs is always the only right one! My God, and each opinion is contrary to mine! Whatever happened to respecting another person's opinion, and not trampling over it, squishing it into the ground? I don't have anyone in my life - family or friends - who ever liked any artwork, music, TV or film style like I do. I could talk music for days, weeks, months ... Nothing from them. So I keep to myself and watch and listen to my favorites, of which Prince is one.

BMP, I assume means songs that are fairly slow? Well in the 80's he had fast songs also, so what was the deal?

Sadly I've learned to not mention Prince to anyone I know. The last time I mentioned him at work I was met with a snarky response not worth repeating. The only place I can play his music is in my old car on cd's. Fortunately I have a long commute and P has become my commuting companion. sad

Dont hide your purple love. When people feel the need to put him down talk about him more.As far as the dancing someone has lost their mind cool Now granted back in the 80's it was a show on called solid gold and the big joke was the music was undanceable or TOO fast. But,other than that i've never heard that about a prince song.

you know its strange, I know more about Prince now after he died than I did before. I had no idea he played 27 instruments, wrote every single song; including songs for other performers, choregraphed his shows, etc. And his stage presence, unbelievable. Thank god for Youtube. I loved the Musicology Tour, I remember people talking about this tour saying, OMG, Prince is unbelievalbe in concert.

This man was truly incredible. A workaholic and someone who could not leave the studio to stop creating and performing. That was his life.

I sadly believe, his pain took him out, not so much the drugs. Grant it, he became addicted to pain medicine, but he probably felt he needed it to perform.

I really miss Prince. There is not an artist out there today that can do everything he did. He was a true musician.

Very interesting because in the states, Prince topped the dance club play charts many times in the 80s. 15 top ten dance hits overall in his career so DJs were definitely playing his songs there.

In the UK, mid to late 80's the clubs were 128 BPM all the way. You've have the odd nostalgic section where 119 BPM would play (Janey Jackson, Prince...usually Amercian) but it was never mainstream.

You'd get Prince at the likes of Disco's and parties, but the clubs didn't really touch him until the Gett Off remix.

That doesn't sound very appealing. Oddly enough, in the late 80s/early 90s, British bands were making inroads into American clubs with slightly slower songs--like Jesus Jones' "Right Here Right Now", The Soup Dragons' "I'm Free", Candy Flip's "Strawberry Fields Forever", etc. This was when I started going out to clubs on a regular basis and really liked hearing that kind of variety on the dancefloor.

You would get those in indie clubs here, but not the main dance clubs. I actually preferred that type of place (London Clubs like The Garage, The Dome, Underworld). They took off from about 88 and through the grunge era particularly. The Farm, Inspiral Carpets, through to the likes of EMF.

I thnk Prince's problem was his BPM never suited the dance clubs, and his image never suited the indie clubs, so he was often left out of both.
