I understand your intentions with this petition are well meaning and good but for the USPS to even consider making a Prince stamp, we ALSO have to make our requests officially as described below...

Interesting. I wonder who the first stamp of a popular musician was... Here's the history of the first Elvis stamp:
January 8, 1993Elvis postage stamps are released by the U.S. Postal Service. In 1992, the U.S. Postal Service announced that Elvis’ image would be used for a commemorative postage stamp. The Postal Service narrowed the artwork choices down to two images - one of Elvis in the 1950’s as a sizzling young rocker, and one of the singer in a suit as a concert superstar in his 1973 "Aloha from Hawaii" special. In an unprecedented move, the USPS put the decision to the American people and distributed ballots coast to coast. Over 1.2 million votes were cast and the image of the young rocker won. The stamp was released on January 8, 1993, with extravagant first day of issue ceremonies at Graceland. Elvis postage stamps are the most widely publicized stamp issue in the history of the U.S. Postal Service and it is the top selling commemorative postage stamp of all time. The USPS printed 500 million of them, three times the usual print run for a commemorative stamp. Several countries outside the U.S. also have issued Elvis postage stamps over the years–a tribute to his status as an international music star.

I hope he gets one eventually. While I hardly buy stamps anymore, MJ-- deservedly so--will most likely get a commemorative stamp before Prince. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

IBFTL. {again}
In order for them to be officially "official", Prince's estate would have to 1) have had a say in their creation. And 2) receive some kind of compensation from their sale.

I could be wrong, of course. Because I'm not an IPR lawyer. But yeah I think they would. “Sometimes People Don't Want To Hear The Truth Because They Don't Want Their Illusions Destroyed” — Friedrich Nietzsche

I presume they go about it in some way similar to the way they go about administering sorngwriting publishing royalties and whatnot. That would be my guess.
There's nothing illegal about buying those Niger stamps if you want them {and if you don't mind having Boney M on a Prince stamp}. Just don't fool yourself in thinking that they are "officially" sanctioned by Prince's estate.

As with any thing, allowances can be made. Maya Angelou stamp can out in less than 5 years. If we make enough noise it can happen. Beautiful, Loved and Blessed
Thank You Prince | |

It doesn't look to me like those Prince stamps are manufactured in Niger. The seller's contact address is a P.O. box in Lithuania, Eastern Europe. When in doubt, email 'em and ask, I always say. “Sometimes People Don't Want To Hear The Truth Because They Don't Want Their Illusions Destroyed” — Friedrich Nietzsche

ABC news did a story some years back on celebrity stamps. There have been a few countries with Madonna (pop star) on stamps. These countries do this to sell their stamps all over the world. It's a way the government can make some cash. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
