Also notice the pilling on the legs....was it getting thread bare or are those pils just his hair springing?....Speaking of springing....BOING! Oh LadyLayla, so glad I still have a friend on the board!! Just an observation, since according to some interviews, he liked to live in his clothing turned inside out - perhaps it just carried over to this one show?! I do enjoy undercover work, though! Hey family! So first of all, I still can't believe last week actually happened. It was such a surreal experience and I know P was there every step of the way.
Our first "full" day was literally a tour of all things P in Minni. First off, Minneapolis is BEAUTIFUL! Such a difference from the Bay Area/LA so I was in awe. I may not say the same when it starts snowing (lol) but right now it's gorgeous. I think I could drive around Minnesota all day listening to P and be perfectly content. Anywho, we visited the Purple Rain house which P bought not too long ago. There were little memorials for him out front. If you squint you can see one in the bushes down below, there was also one on the mailbox. I'm really hoping they preserve this and turn it into some sort of landmark.
We visited the Schmitt Music Wall, which I know is familiar to all of us!
I couldn't help but to take a side by side
We of course went by First Ave and actually had lunch at The Depot which is the restaurant attached to it. I couldn't believe I was actually standing in front of the First Ave. Next to PP I felt like that was the Holy Grail. It meant a lot to me since PR is the reason I fell in love with him and his music in the first place. I teared up before we even hit the corner. Many many tissues were abused during the entire trip lol Jen Jen caught this awesome pic of me taking a pic You could already see the gold paint starting to chip away. I have a feeling they're gonna have to touch this up quite often. Electric Fetus was also on the list. Susannah and Judith Hill both did signings here throughout the week. We had so much going on though, we didn't get the chance to meet them but there are plenty of photos going around! Looks like everyone enjoyed meeting them.
I'm gonna break this up into a few posts so that it's not pic overload

So that same day I also went and got my tattoo done (sorry for the photo repost) Bank got her tat a few weeks ago and was sweet enough to ask him about possibly doing mine when I came to visit. He was able to take me the next day. It was quick and easy! As soon as he finished up I started crying when I saw it. It's literally as if he left a sweet little signature. I purposely put it on my left wrist since I'm left handed. I want to be able to see see it no matter what I'm doing as a reminder that he's always there just as he had been the entire week. I also got it as a reminder of this amazing "Purple Journey" and everything that occured. I'm absolutely in love with it. When I look at it P's voice comes to mind... "4 all time I am with U, U are with me"
After that was the actual tribute. Wow! 5 hours long and worth every single second. Honestly it did not seem that long to me. I didn't get a ton of pics of the show because I was either A. Crying, or B. Dancing and singing along. John Mayer and Christina Aguilera were no-shows, but all of the other performers were amazing. Mint Condition opened, The Time only did 2 songs which was disappointing but they had to run to do a (last minute, I believe) show at First Ave. Elisa sang Sometimes it Snows. I was a MESS. I guess I should have assumed that song would be incorporated somehow, but I was not prepared. That was the first major tear jerker of the night. Tony M performed (I didn't even realize it was him at first!), Kirk, Barbarella, Shelby, Liv, Morris Hayes of course, Andre, Bobby Z made a speech and Mayte performed a BEAUTIFUL dance that transitioned into 7. (Here's a little clip I po...interested) Second major tear jerker for me. Chaka and Stevie were great. Luke James blew me away, he made me a fan that night. His performance also seemed incredibly genuine which I appreciated. They ended it in the best way possible but once again, I was not prepared emotionally. All of a sudden his voice came over the speakers. He said "I love you" and they played a recording of HIM doing Purple Rain. While it was hands down the hardest part of the tribute, I am so glad they did it the way they did. They know that absolutely no one can do PR properly except for him. They all gathered on stage as it played. It was beautiful.
One really cool and crazy coincidence (one of the many instances I knew P was guiding us) was that Jen Jen and I met Tyka's daughter randomly in the bathroom! Lol It was just us 3 and she stroke up a conversation with us. Without getting into too much detail (sadly I don't know who lurks the org these days) she said her and the family were doing well. I ended up connecting with her the next night and she sent me a message on the family's behalf. It was incredibly touching. One thing I noticed is that the family really is trying their best to help US heal. I have so much love and respect for them for that.
After the show we went to the Dance Til Dawn Party. We were so tired so we didn't stay long the first night. But here are some shots of the ever so sexy Andre from that night Here's a little clip of h...that night
The next day we all took Mayte's Belly Dance class. ALL. DAY. We were so beat but it was so worth it. I'd post my pic, but I look a mess Lol! We then went to the second Dance Til Dawn party that night which was a blast. We ended up getting VIP at the last minute and our booth was directly next to the stage. This is where we met Morris Hayes and the second amazing coincidence, meeting Omar P's brother. He didn't have to come our way, but he came over just to hold our hands and say thank you. Once again, SUCH a loving family. I wanted to scream and say No, Thank YOU! That night was full of laughs. G Sharp and The Biz are a really great band. They played 30-40 Prince songs, along with Andre for a few of them. Shelby and Liv joined them as well. If you watched Shelby's live feed on Facebook from that night, you'll probably see us waving and screaming like crazy people
Ok one more post and I'm done! Lol!

Dance Til Dawn. Me and my Purple ladies! I loved the symbols they had lined against every single window. Can I get one for my bedroom window? When we were driving as we were leaving I happened to look out the window. All I saw was a familiar arm that said "Minneapolis" and I screamed! I nearly scared Bank half to death when she was driving but I know that arm anywhere! We immediately made a U turn and saw this on the side of the building
It was one of those odd coincidences again. None of us were even aware and had I not been looking where I was, we would have missed it.
Next and final day was Chanhassen. We visited the stunning mural on the side of the Chanhassen Cinema. It's even more breathtaking in person. It is massive. Once again, tissues were abused.
Then, we toured Paisley. I hadn't planned on taking the tour at all, I thought it was too soon for me. However as soon as I landed in Minni I knew it was something I had to do. There were still tix available for that day so we went for it. I think I can speak on behalf of all of us that we don't regret it at all. I still can't believe that I went. As soon as I walked through those doors I cried. It is beautiful inside and out. Pretty much everything is how he left it. Just to be in the same rooms where all of his incredible music was created was something I can't describe. I want everyone to have their own experience of PP so I won't go in and describe everything, but just know it is absolutely worth it. His presence is everywhere. When I saw the Parade Tambourine laying on the piano I knew I had to hold it (considering the shirt I was wearing). I was told I was allowed to so I did. I can't wait to frame this one The last (and biggest) sign was as we were leaving PP. As MoD mentioned, we walked out and suddenly there was this incredible double rainbow waiting for us outside. Once again, I start bawling. You couldn't make up a better ending if you tried. It truly was unbelievable. I took it as a sign/gift and I can honestly say I will never forget that for as long as I live
That night we went to Bunker's to see Chase & Ovation perform. They are an awesome P cover band, and we danced all night. I hated that it had to end, but I'm glad it ended the way it did. The entire trip was perfect. Thank you Bank, MoD and Jen Jen for the time of my life!! It blows me away when I think about the fact that this pic thread is the reason why we even connected in the first place. P knew exactly what he was doing bringing us all together.

Leslievette - thank you so much for all those beautiful pictures and your beautiful comments. I thought β long and hard, maybe too long and hard β about coming to Minneapolis in October but with all the "permit issues" regarding PP, in the end, I decided to wait (it would have been so hugely disappointing, coming from Europe and then not being able to get inβ¦). But now that I have seen your pictures and read your story I am determined to travel to MPLS β soon (Loooove that tattoo ! ) | |
