Prince didn't curse much in interviews I was reading a bunch of older interviews with Prince and one thing I noticed is he rarely ever cursed in interviews. Contrast that to someone like Dave Grohl who swears like a sailor and in interviews too. Which got me wondering...if you were just hanging out with Prince in the 90s was he a curse machine like Dave Grohl or was that all just part of his act for that era? Paisley Park is in your heart

That's a very good observation, I never thought about that. I remember when I first started reading things like Rolling Stone ,for example, as a youngster I was amazed at all the f bombs lol. But you're right you don't come across that reading old Prince interviews. I did see a clip of a t.v. interview probably from around 1997/98 or so and he said he had respect for his wife and made an effort not to curse around her but turned to his bandmates who were at his side for the interview and said something like. . . around these guys those words are more apt to fly and they all chuckled. But by then I guess he was already thinking about giving it up altogether and starting the famous jar. We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

I still get sad reading that 2014 Rolling Stone interview, especially because of the end passage. It's nearly 2 a.m., and Prince is done for the night. He walks me through the depths of Paisley Park, his shoes glowing in the dark, to retrieve my jacket and bag. As we walk, I hear doves cry – actual doves that live in a cage somewhere in the rafters. As I put on my coat, Prince invites me to join the band in London. The zipper catches badly on the way up. "Fuck," I say, and my host looks stricken. "So much for not cursing," he says. I apologize. Prince looks me in the eyes, and wraps me in a tight hug. I am, as promised, dismantled by his instant forgiveness. I can still feel that embrace as I walk outside, where moonlight shines on a thick layer of immaculate, freshly fallen snow. Paisley Park is in your heart

That makes me cry every time. Every single time. Poor lonely baby. :(

Aw, yes this one was very sad to read. I did smile at the "so much for not cursing" I can just imagine how he said that. I only read this once, back in April when I was taking in so much, everyday about Prince, should go back for a re-read. We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

Dave Grohl cracks me up too lol
Yeah I also wonder that Prince didn't curse either in his interviews. I read his early interviews and he did swear some and also he threw a middle finger when he had that Afro in one of his earlier photos. So he was a badass in the interviews at first. Prince once again picks the persona he wanted to present. He admitted himself he have various personalities.
I maintain Prince still curse on the low even after the swear jar and said publicly he wouldnt curse again.
When that New York nightclub owner or manager said Prince did that private show shortly before his death, and Prince said he didn't want to be pain in the ass I believed that nightclub owner.

[Edited 9/14/16 20:35pm] Why? The fact that P wasn't cursing anymore and would call people out for doing it probably made him seem more weird to people. Anyway my point was about interviews. For someome who supposedly had such a potty mouth it wasn't really anywhere to be found in interviews. Sheila E said she stopped working with Prince in the late 80s/early 90s because he started swearing again (and she had stopped). Which makes me wonder how much of it was just a product of that era. I've always felt the 90s was a weird decade for Prince. The whole name change, writing slave on his face, wearing this white makeup that almost made him look dead. Some great music came out of that decade but boy was it a weird one... Paisley Park is in your heart
