APOLLONIA KOTERO (actress) I was in South America and Mexico — singing in nightclubs, doing commercials, TV series, films. I had to submit my tape with songs and the acting reel, meet the producers in L.A., and meet Prince in Minnesota. He was shy. And he smelled real good. Like purple. [Laughs.] We sat there and stared at each other for the longest time.

Madonna smells Prince
In Bill Zehme's cover story on Madonna, she discusses Catholicism, her split from Sean Penn, her endorsement deal with Pepsi (her "Like a Prayer" video would end up scotching that), and a certain genius from Minneapolis."Ever since I've known Prince, I've attached a smell to him, which is lavender," Madonna said. "He reeks of it."

biggrin

.

Lavender it was!! I'm sure he wore a custom-made scent; that would not suprise me at all. I'm sure he smelled delicious!! On the topic of fragrance; notice how Prince never sold-out by coming out with his own line of clothing or fragrance, like most celebs do nowadays. I recall Madonna came out with a scent a few years back, now you don't ever hear about it anymore. Personally, I'm glad Prince did not do that kinda thing -- he was too cool for that, and you know he don't want anyone copying his style! LOL biggrin

The more I remember it, the more I think it could have been this. It smells very similar to what I have experienced and the brand is known for their subtle and natural scents. How close was I? Very close: he had his arm around me and his hand on my waist, his other hand in my right hand... And no, I don't work for l'Occitane lol.

So in honor of this coming up as a topic of conversation in another thread, I really felt it needed to be resurrected lol nod I had told my husband to get a sample of this when he was in Nordstrom's because I was curious about the scent. He showed up with it today, it is divine!!! I loved it, so I purchased a bottle for his birthday along with a bottle of the Eau De Baux. Really nice scents.

Yes, it smells lovely doesn't it. Perhaps they should re-design it and sell it at PP. I got a few ideas for the names already:

- Potentially Prince
- Purple Scent

- Princely Potion
- Funky Essence (lol)

- Aftershow

- Reminiscent
or just -Indigo Night

wink

He always smelt of lavender. Up close it was obvious, but sometimes it was so strong you could smell him from the front row of gig, even with a camera pit.

The first item of clothing I had of his (a shirt he threw out doing Head/Electric Man) smelt of lavender for about 10 years before it faded.

He didn't smell that strong to me, maybe he had switched to another perfume later on in life.

At the IndigO2 what I noticed is some cinnamon/spicy notes, but then again I grew up in a family that was growing a lot of lavender and putting it in cupbards for storing clothes, sheets etc. I also often used lavender based stuff around the time of the London shows, so I was perhaps a bit imune to it. Also that day, just before going to the shows, I had used a new honey and vanilla shampoo and the scent of that was still very present when I was at the show, so it might have been covering up whatever scent that Prince was wearing that night.

That's so cool that you got to keep something from him... cool

In the 1980s, when Madonna was briefly dating Prince, she commented that he smelt of lavender.

Wow! The description of this Eau de l'Occitan perfectly captures what I smelled at the April Atlanta Fox Theater concert from the orchestra pit when he walked toward the front of the stage...lavender and the "peppery, nutmeg" notes. I was thinking a combination of lavender and amber...and I recently discovered an essential oil, White Angelica, that reminds me of the fragrance I detected. I'll never forget it.

Wow. It might be worth getting a sample of this so you can see how that compares. You would probably have a better memory of it than me because it was a few years back for me. Although scents do bring back memories apparently:

"One reason this might be has to do with the way your brain processes odors and memories. Smells get routed through your olfactory bulb, which the smell-analyzing region in your brain. It’s closely connected to your amygdala and hippocampus, brain regions that handle memory and emotion."

I just heard an interesting tidbit on a YouTube video about making herbal tinctures and they were using lavender and discussing uses and interesting types and uses for lavender like ice cream and other recipes and tea and how it relaxes you and stuff...It "boosts estrogen levels" and can cause "fluctuating hormones". Apparently weightlifters and atheletes avoid it for that reason. Hmmmmmmm...Interesting, no?
