When The Dream dropped Yamaha/Nikki Pt.2/Abyss on 2010's Love King, I fell hard. And I know how this works - fan thinks cheap imitation of favorite artist is cheap imitation of favorite artist. Eh, those three together made me weak, though. Since P's moving on, it still sounds good to me.
Djur Black Purple Star song which he made 2 days after Prince died while watching news reports will definitely make u think of Prince it was made to honor Prince the full song will b released soon
Since Prince passed I have been listening to Sananda Maitreya (aka Terence Trent Darby) so much...Knowing he is around and still making good music (the voice is still amazing) gives me a comfort.
I hadn't even realised he had changed his name! Thanks to you I now do.

I'm with all of you who mentioned TTD. I bought Introducing The Hardline back in '87 and I couldn't stop thinking of Prince whenever I listened to it.
Also yes, Ready For The World in '85 and '86 came along and sounded just like Prince had in 82-84.... just as Prince started to sound very different with the likes of Parade, which I always thought was quite funny. Don't get me wrong, I liked RFTT at the time, they just sounded about three years too late with their sound to be the Prince contemporaries they longed to be. Great Prince tribute band though.
But there is on album that stands out to me as so Prince like that I almost think of it as a great lost Prince album -
Street Troubadour by Andreus (2002). I'ver never wanted an album by another artist to actually be a Prince album the way I did when I first heard this. It's an amazing album as it is, but lord what Prince might have done with that same material. If you've never heard of it, I can't recommend enough that you check it out and imagine what Prince might have made of the album. On one track, Mary Ann I so wanted to hear Prince singing it that I could swear he was singing the harmony vocals, even though I knew he wasn't, and hadn't had anything to do with the album, lol.
Shit, I still have the self-titled RFTW cassette . Not offended by them at all, but really didn't follow their career after the first album. On that note, I still have Jesse Johnson's Revue, too, and still freaking love that album. It doesn't matter that Prince could have written it with one hand tied behind his back while sleeping. In regards to the sound of RFTW and Jesse coming on the scene while P's fumes were dissipating...it's not enough of a reason for me to dismiss the music, but it sure does speak to Prince's greatness and why those who emulated certain sounds of P couldn't hang with the man when it came to his overall game. And Jesse got game, but P was a one man league who could have written both Jesse's and RFTW's entire discography in an afternoon. Nap included.
Also Ellis, Beggs and Howard - Big Bubbles, No Troubles (still love that song).
Anyone remembers them? Always thought they sound SO MUCH like Prince.
And also some jazz and jazz fusion in general.
I loved that song back in the day and I rememeber them
TTD used to remind me a lot of Prince back in the day, but the more I listened to him and with all the shows of him I went to the the more I only saw him as TTD/Sananda and he hardly made me think of Prince anymore.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Superstition does, always has, but now makes me a bit teary remembering how happy he was joining in with Stevie Wonder. Unchained Melody got me thinking about him yesterday while I was listening to a band play at my local pub, then they segued into Heroes and Purple Rain and I had to excuse myself for a quick cry.

Same here. I'll never forget that time he started an aftershow by simply waking from the backstage curtain to his keyboard, in rythmn whilst Cora was already beating the drums, then he sat down and kicked off with that goose bumping intro to Superstition. I was right at the front, and right in front of him. He looked up and his eyes went straight into mine. Ah the butterflies in my belly. Millions of them dancing happily. Unforgettable experience... Now every time I hear this song, the whole scene unfolds again as soon as I hear the drums.

Oh CherryMoon what a great memory! More reasons to love Superstition (and him)

Without You from the musical RENT. Oddly enough, I had it on repeat before he went to sleep. It was the last song I listened to before I woke up the news. Here are the lyrics.
Without you The ground thaws The rain falls The grass grows
Without you The seeds root The flowers bloom The children play
The stars gleam The poets dream The eagles fly
Without you The earth turns The sun burns But I die without you
Without you The breeze warms The girl smiles The cloud moves
Without you The tides change The boys run The oceans crash
The crowds roar The days soar The babies cry
Without you The moon glows \n The river flows But I die without you
The world revives (Colors renew) But I know blue, only blue Lonely blue (Within me blue) Without you
Without you The hand gropes The ear hears The pulse beats
Without you The eyes gaze The legs walks The lungs breathe
The mind churns (The mind churns) The heart yearns (The heart yearns)
The tears dry without you Life goes on but I'm gone 'Cause I die without you
Omg off subject but you just brought back great memories of my husband listening to that and my son who was 14 or 15 at the time just laughing his butt off. You know how the kids these days make fun of our music. My husband said he was gonna go pick him up from school with the windows down and the Commodores blasting. When I listen to my 80s music my son is like WTH....

Im listening to the Commodores Nightshift and instantly thought of Prince Got me crying again
Just an old song, but so much meaning. Now Prince has joined all the great voices who left us too
