It's hard to understand that chemistry. She took off right after Lovesexy was done and went to Australia I believe, Cat took off to London
What really happened in that 1989 period is still a bit of a mystery
Cat Glover: Boni Boyer was my best friend on tour. We shared dressing rooms together. She was Boyer was from Oakland. She was from the street. She would have Prince on the floor laughing. When she would walk onstage during sound checks, we would all immediately start laughing, because, we knew she was going to say something funny. Great story! Absolutely fantastic!! She also talked about it on her FB before, that there was nothing romantic or sexual between them. I guess Sheila E was the more 'visible' main item, then Anna Fantastic came into the picture etc We are just talking, no static. Peace

I didn t even know that he was playing in Dortmund at the time even though I was a hardcore fan. I saw the Sign of the times Tour in Dortmund (the first concert i went to) and would have loved to see him again in Dortmund. Instead I travelled to the Lovesexy Tour in Frankfurt which was a show in stadium. Being a stadium show it was good but not as great as the show in Dortmund in a concert hall with that round stage would have been. Also travelling to Frankfurt took four times as long as Dortmund because I live quite close to Dortmund.

Ok...but I think perhaps Cat keeps it on the low because she doesn't want to be seen as just "one of P's girls," all of whom he was reportedly "doing" at the same time. There are lots of stories of how jealous Sheila E. was of Cat. And if you look at the band photos during that era, Cat was almost always nearest to him, and Sheila would sometimes be standing on the edge of the group or in the background. I don't think that's accidental. Just my take...

But anytime a woman is seen with Prince they are assumed to be 'one of Prince's girls' even if there is nothing going on. Cat wouldn't be able to avoid that. If there was something between them, keeping it secret wasn't going to avoid that, because people automatically assumed back then that they were having sex or something. Yep I noticed that too, but I do believe it was her part to play the on stage lover. Then the same thing translated over to Lovesexy, with the whole good vs evil light vs dark love vs lust, Boni Boyer singing to Cat 'Girl he's no good for you' etc etc But on the Lovesexy tour since he removed Gregory & Wally, Miko Weaver took the place of the possible lover of Cat, that Prince was competing with. And Sheila E being very competitive, and in an actualy 'romantic' relationship with Prince, and used to being out there on the floor with Prince, we definately feeling conflicted. Especially knowing who things could be with Prince. I agree it is not accidental, but it was planned for the energy of the show. I do believe Prince did a lot of stuff like that to garner energy for the shows and the culture. Not just women but with the protege bands too.

I'm glad to see Boni getting some love in here, she deserves it she had a remarkable voice!!! - Cat IMO was his best dancer and P and her had a real chemistry dancing together on stage which i'm not sure translated into a relationship off stage. Prince's fashion at the time was a little too contrived and theatrical for me but the music was 10 out of 10. That picture ^ of him in the polka dot outfit, gloves and hat is all about him pushing the boundaries of the norm and making a statement that he can do whatever he wants. I remember all the controversy at the time when it was published. Friends of mine who were not P fans and I wondered what the hell he was doing? Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

I loved to see him in the polka dot outfits. The halter was a bit much, IMHO, but hey, Prince always pushed the envelope.

He certainly did. Looking back I don't know why we were so shocked as this was nothing new but I think all that rouge make up on his face took the biscuit! Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

Prince's resurrection BY DAVID WILD
"I DIG YOU, and you dig me," Prince told a cheering crowd of 17,000 Parisians at the Palais Omnisport Bercy toward the end of one of the extraordinary shows that opened his Lovesexy '88 Tour. "And together we'll dig him to death. Thank you, Jesus." Pointing his guitar meaningfully toward the heavens, or at least toward the painted clouds that hung overhead, Prince then ripped into "Purple Rain," offering one of his most divinely inspired solos of the evening.
As the shows went on, Prince became increasingly direct about his intentions. "The first half, I gave it to you because you were expecting it," he said during the third night in Paris. "The second half is what it's all about. It's about how we all dig each other and him."

I've been to both Lovesexy Shows in Dortmund and yes it is true that the second one which is aired had the better audience but the first nicgt was loneger. At the time of the shows i lived in Dortmund and there were only tickets avaible for the first night but when i noticed that there will a second night i drive to the Westfalen Halle at had the luck to get a second row ticket for the second evening. Both evenings were great and i enjoy the video and think about what a luck i had

There was no venue big enough to put the wole set up in, and still have some room left for a crowd. I thought that is allso the reason the three shows in Holland were in the Feijenoord stadium. Front end, but then on the longer side of the field...

LOVE this era. It's one that I unfortunately only experienced looking back on it and not while it was happening. Alphabet Street aside, I was not tuned in during this time, living in a Jr. High bubble focused on other things and acts. The album, the tour, the looks, the supporting musicians, the aftershows. . .amazing. The album is in my top 3. Wish I could go back in time and live through this era again and pay attention this time! We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

This must have been one of Cat's (and Prince's) favorite parts of the show. In later years, after he was more settled, P admitted that, back in the day, he would script intimate scenes with women that he wanted. And he scripted A LOT of scenes, ENTIRE TOURS, EVEN, where he was ALL OVER Cat. And, I'm not mad at them. They were both young, hot, and gorgeous.

This comment disappeared the first time, so I'll try again. Believe what you want, but Cat and Prince were going AT it. Alls I know is this: Cat went from meeting Prince through a mutual friend (who he was at the time dating) to dancing with him at a club...to travelling the world with him AND headlining TWO of his tours. Why is it so hard for some to believe that Cat simply PUT IT ON Prince?!? Remember, before Cat, there WERE no dancers, but P made a spot for her. Cat came in and TOOK OVER...and SHEILA. WAS. NOT. WELL. [Edited 10/10/16 15:46pm]

lol Prince was testing the waters of a dancer from the Raspberry Beret video, to the ballet dancer from Under the Cherry Moon to having Jerome Benton Wally & Gregory as dancers for the Family then pulled them as extensions of the Revolution live after the Family break. So technically he's had dancers before and Jerome who was the valet/dancer for the Time, was fired by Prince for working with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, met Cat at a late 1986 Dinner party with Devin DeVasquez John L. Nelson Steve Fargnoli (I think Miles Davis & Eric Leeds were here too) and put her into Jeromes spot.
Troy Beyer (the actress/director) was dating Prince at the time and she lived in my (apartment) building. I said "Troy, Prince has called and Bowie just called. I don't know what to do." I was so confused. She said "Cat, do what your heart says." I said "Prince!"
