Shelby J and Prince -- but what's on his left wrist?

.

It looks like a heavily gauze-wrapped wrist, done quickly like mid-performance.

I noticed in other videos P slightly rubbing that wrist. IMHO he had slight carpel tunnel issues from repitative motion caused by playing guitar.

Prince seemed to wear wristbands a lot. Not sure if it was just fashion or if there was some other reason.

Interesting. I never took notice of the bandages on his wrist. I wonder what that was for?

Look at that fancy cuff. There's an Ace bandage or wrist brace underneath it.

Sheila E said they always played through injuries; we're just looking closer now.

There does seem to be an ace bandage under the arm cuff/wristband

Musicians and performers and athletes have this in common: show must go on.
Playing on tour, for as long, bandages, athletic tape are the norm.
Repetitive strain etc.

Oh, those eyes indeed.. cool

I've noticed it for some time, too. But it's not an unusual problem to have. I've used the same type of bandage to do my job.

Maybe he had discomfort from playing the guitar and needed some wrist support.

There are several performances where he's jamming the guitar and he's had to quickly stretch it out and then return to playing. I think he did it on the 2009 French TV performance.

The dude was 57 when he passed. It doesn't surprise me that he may have had issues. Hell, I'm 43 and I have aches and pains.

I think that was just his flamboyant playing style.

Not sure how far appart those two pictures were taken.

But the "bandage" appears to be on different wrists in each. Which to me suggests that it was simply there to stop his rockstar wristbands sliding down his arm.

It's possible carpal tunnel syndrom (keep in mind how many years he played guitar, not to mention piano) and that puts a strain on those tendons. In my left wrist, I have a tendon that gets inflamed and somehow gets trapped under that bone in your wrist. Doc gave me a shot in it the first time and I had to wear a brace for several weeks. He told me if it ever happend again, I'd probably have to have surgery on that wrist. I never complained again, but will still wear that brace from time to time when it gets like that. And mine was just caused by about a year of working in a factory. I can't imagine the strain of having to twist your hand and wrist in the way he did while playing guitar.

The first photo is from Hop Farm 2011, second is from Coachella 2008.

I'm also a piano player too and I know what it's like to have hand strains due to playing too much or improper practice skills. It would not surprise me that he might have had any hand strains.

It makes sense that Prince probably suffered repetitive use injuries to his wrists. Being in pain due to injuries is no laughing matter.

--

That said, he was able to take whatever was ailing him and make it an opportunity to do something fashionable. He could walk with a cane or wear a wristband and look completely BADASS!!! Seriously, he had so much SWAG!!!

P

1994, not my favorite look of his, but he is rocking that cane!

P

March 2016, Warriors game...swag, swag, swag!

Not buying it. The gloves and the way he holds that cane by the ball on top... Ain't nothing wrong with his hands at least as far as carpal tunnel, and repetitive strain issues go. I've got those issues and the last thing you would want to do is wear gloves. Also the ace bandge theory doesn't make sense in that it doesn't support the wrist in a way you'd want with carpal tunnel. Maybe that's where he hid his opiate patches, though? IDK.

There are wrist braces almost exactly that size; wearing that cuff is a perfect disguise.

Your IDK is disgusting.

Pssh... He was wearing them somewhere, some say perhaps as long as a decade or more. The wrist would be easy access.

Again for carpal tunnel, what good would a brace do that does not stabalize the palm and wrist? I googled around a bit and if he was wearing a brace for carpal tunnel, the one he has in these photos is nothing like the most common examples, which leads me to think, it's just another example of Prince self-treating or at least using off-beat medical practices for a serious condition.
