"Corner of my studio" "somewhere in the south pacific"

Lyrics from "Back 2 the Lotus" are interesting. Did Prince visit the south pacific? Did he have a studio there? What is in the corner of that studio? On a side note, it is interesting that Prince's face in the cover of the album has 7 sides.

Well, not there, but he did have a home in Turks and Caicos.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

yeah, the lyrics to "back 2 the lotus" are interesting. i've never been able to make them all out.
not very well, anyway.

great track. that last minute or two is just phenomenal. i love love LOVE that.

no idea what the "from a lotusflower, somewhere in the south pacific, corner of my studio" is
all about.

it was a relief though, when this was released, to finally know what that bit at the very start of
"3121" was. 'from a lotus flower....'

cool

He is trying to tell us the location of something. I think those that know his properties and possessions should investigate. Maybe it is not literally in the south pacific. Everything Prince does has a meaning.

I know, right?

Sometimes, there was no meaning. He spent a helluva lot of time just effing with people.

Yeah... But what if all his lyrics are a treasure hunt?

What I always found remarkable is that he started his carreer at WB with 'For You' and ended it with 'Had you'. Don't even think of that being an coincidence...

I've been thinking about this lyric a lot. It's absurd to think it could be a clue to where his will might be but it's a thought-provoker anyway.

Perhaps the location of his will is mentioned somewhere in his music. Again, highly unlikely but that would be a very Prince thing to do.

He knew it was his last WB album. There is nothing even remotely profound or clever about naming the last song on a WB record Had You when his first song on a WB album was For You. That's kind of high school-level, to be honest. Him doing that doesn't mean every lyric was a treasure hunt. I don't think he had the attention span or patience to deal with that, anyway.

Or the time! When you think about how quickly he wrote and recorded some of those things - there's just no way everything was infused with "special meaning."

It probably tickled him to no end to watch others put it there, though.

Agreed. Prince's music was a straight-forward as it was cryptic, but more often than not it was the former. I think of "Another Lonely Christmas" and people thinking that was a real story, because of the details. It was 100% fiction, and it just shows how creative the guy was with lyrics. Nothing was ever that cryptic in his music. He didn't bury numerology or hidden messages in his music. And if he did, for who to find? A random fan to seek out a buried treasure years later?

How is that remarkable, per se? Both were random tracks he recorded. C&D was supposed to be for private use only (whatever that means). It's easy to put a track at the end of your last record that has a "fuck you" attitude on it, when you're leaving your record company. If you're that petty.

It wasn't some grand scheme that his first song was "For You" (we know there were other songs written & recorded before that anyway), and he thought, in 1977 "whenever this contract is over, I'll have changed my name, raise a few stinks along the way, and end it all with a song call 'had u'. when my lucrative contract that makes me a gazillionaire expires." wacky

The only purposeful part of "had u" was that it could prove to be a great story for the press. Even Prince said "Oh, it was fate". Of course it was, honey. comfort

I am in the group of people that finds significance in everything that Prince has ever done. Perhaps I read too much into things. But, when he says "somewhere in the south pacific, in the corner of my studio" he is trying to tell us something. He is giving us some type of clue. I think this topic merits more analysis.

Yes! That's a huge thing I keep realizing, over and over. I've been so immersed in his music, and videos, and just general reading up on whatever I can find since April. He LOVED fucking with people! His humor was so sharp and I think he really only cared if he was amusing himself sometimes. He had a really good time messing with folks. And he was hilarious. I love that so much.
