I'm really on the fence about attending this memorial, as I'm not sure how I will handle anyone else covering his stuff. I'm concerned that I will be disappointed. I'd prefer 100% screenings of Prince live. Does anyone else feel like this?

I don't think they need Beyoncé or Taylor Swift to fill the stadium but I do think they need more than just a couple acts. Shelby J and Trevor Guy tweeted about the show so we know members of NPG and 3rdEye will be there. Morris Day just tweeted too so I expect The Time will take part as well. If they bring in someone like Bruno Mars to sing with the NPG Hornz I'd have no problem with that. Obviously John Blackwell has been sick so maybe they get Michael Bland or Cora Dunahm on drums? I do wish this could have been THE tribute with everybody there but with the Revolution just doing 3 gigs at First Ave and Sheila having another gig scheduled for that night I would be surprised if any of them are there. I do hope we get stories in between the songs. I would love to hear stories about the MAN beyond the performer. Things people haven't heard before. Allow it to be a mix of memorial and celebration. The Time. The Revolution + Dez, Andre & Bilal. The Family. Mint Condition. Cat. Rosie. Bland. Sonny. Hayes. Mavis. George Clinton. Bootsy. Maceo. Santana. Badu. D'angelo. Stevie. Chaka. Joni (hopefully well enough 2 say a few words if not perform?). Kate Bush & Sade (come outta hiding) "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Perhaps Prince's family can look at today's public memorial being held in Mexico City for superstar Juan Gabriel as a model for Prince's memorial?
According to an article that was just published in Billboard Magazine, 700,000 people are expected to attend. It's the third public memorial being held for him since he passed away and it's suppose to be the biggest. The program consists of a mix of Juan Gabriel's protégés and some of today's major recording artists interpreting his songs. The latter are singers that had worked with him in the past and that have previously recorded his songs. Live performances will be done within the main venue (Palacio de Bellas Artes) and outside of it. To accommodate the masses, they will also have huge screens outside of the venue. Some streets have also been shutdown for the massive crowds that will be arriving. It will also be televised live throughout the world. Juan Gabriel was also cremated. His ashes will be placed on an altar next to a giant photo of him at the public memorial. [Edited 9/5/16 14:20pm]

Also, Santana's band does amazing percussion. They could contribute their excellent percussion skills to the music Sheila E. would have done such as The Glamorous Life! Perhaps they can also perform "Get on the Boat" from the 3121 album.

What does everyone think of the following performing as well? Delilah Dale can sing the song Prince wrote for her Paisley Park album Carmen Electra can perform one of her raps off her Paisley Park album There is also a singer who released a beautiful song a couple of months ago that was written for her by Prince. Does anyone recall her name?

Most of all I want to see Sheila E! I just can't believe she isn't going to be there. Also believe the Revolution and Time are groups that must be there. I watched the Revolution tribute and Andre was awesome and should be in the entire Revolution set. I do agree that some of his younger women performers would be good as well as Lenny and Stevie. IT HAS TO BE A PAY PER VIEW OR SOMETHING BECAUSE TOO MANY FANS JUST CANT MAKE IT TO MINNESOTA!!

What songs would you like Mavis Staples to perform? Perhaps "Time Waits for No One", "God Is Alive" & "Positivity"? "Jaguar" is a funky one that Prince also wrote for her.

It would be wonderful for Elisa to sing "Ooh This I Need" and her duet with The Time "Love Machine". Both written by Prince. Sheena Easton should perform "Erernity" and "101". Both also written by Prince.

To draw more people, maybe John Legend can only be asked to play "Venus De Milo" on piano? Would that work? Alicia Keyes can give a speech or perhaps sing "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore"? Would this be upsetting to fans/fams? Just trying to reach a middle ground here to make the memorial a huge success.

Prince had very strong religious beliefs that we all need to respect. Any ideas on how to integrate that within his memorial?

Celebrate the man's music, his charitable endeavours, his impact on the world. But religion is a testy subject for a lot of people. You don't want to alienate half the people there by going on about Jehovah and who knows what else. On that note, and a bit off topic, I'm worried that a lot of Prince’s best unreleased material may stay buried in the vault due to his religious beliefs he had later in life. I really hope that's not the case, but I can't see them releasing songs he recorded in the early 80's if they're explicit, regardless of how good they might be.

Should Sheena Easton perform "U Got The Look"? If so, with whom? D'Angelo or Bilal or someone else? If she would perform it with Kanye West or Chris Brown it may very well draw the masses. It would not be a good duet though. What does everyone think?

Latin said: Prince had very strong religious beliefs that we all need to respect. Any ideas on how to integrate that within his memorial? I wonder about that, too. How to present everything he was without sanitizing it, yet remain respectful. I'd be very disappointed with a G-rated show. There is joy in so many of his songs, from sex to God and everything in between. So why not go there? Say it up front: celebrate the carnal and the spiritual. I've never understood why society thinks sex and spirituality can't go together. Not only can they go together, they should. Isn't that the goal?? Isn't that what he did? I try not to read into the thoughts of a man I never knew, but clearly he believed that and lived that. So let's honor all of it--love, sex, pain, faith, humor-- eyes and hearts wide open. And the MUSIC continues...forever...

Prince was very upfront about his strong beliefs regardless of his commercial success and what anyone else thought. If this is meant to be a true memorial to celebrate Prince's life it would be important to not exclude his strong beliefs within the memorial, regardless of what others may think.

Regardless of the fact that some of us may have disagreed with some of his religious beliefs, we must respect the fact that those were his strongs beliefs. He made entire albums & did tours to share these beliefs regardless of the sales of his albums and the impact on his overall career. There must be a way to reach a middle ground in this upcoming memorial. He showed us all a middle ground during the "Lovesexy Tour". Let us celebrate ALL of his life and amazing career at the memorial in the most respectful way possible.

In fact, there are many fans/fams worldwide that respect Prince because he was consistently bold and shared his beliefs from the beginning and throughout his career at the risk of losing commercial success. Hopefully, the upcoming memorial will reflect & celebrate this groundbreaking aspect of the one and only Prince.

Not cursing was definitely important to him later in life. And to be honest I think he has enough other good music that they don't need to be. Paisley Park is in your heart

Those are awesome suggestions...especially Santana. I've heard Prince mention more than once that he was influenced by Santana. I think Alicia Keys would be a great addition and could draw a bigger crowd. D'Angelo would be fantastic. What about Sting or Eric Clapton...contemporaries who both have stories of how Prince influenced their music and could also help bring crowds. Of course, my heart wants the Revolution, Andre and Dez, as well as NPG and 3rdEyeGirl, the Time, Apollonia 6 and all the others he developed but I know those groups alone won't garner the ticket sales needed. There are artists out there who will help them get those sales that also have a deep respect and love for Prince. I don't want to see Lady Gaga or other randoms just because they might be a draw. That's when it could turn into a circus and not a celebration of Prince.
