Poll: Who would Prince fans/fams like to see perform at the Oct. 13th memorial/tribute being planned by his family? As Prince fans/fams, let's all make suggestions as to whom we would like to see perform & participate at the Prince public memorial his family is planning to be held on October 13th.
It's possible that family members and others planning the event read this site. Hopefully, the results of this poll will help the organizers of the memorial decide who to invite to participate. You are welcome to suggest artists that you would love to see perform and even songs that you wish would be performed. For clarification purposes: This thread is NOT meant to be a discussion on any other aspects of the memorial such as when tickets will go on sale, etc. There is a separate general sticky that covers all of that. Thank you and let's share our recommendations! [Edited 9/6/16 19:38pm]

Only the bands and people he collaborated with over the years. But especially Esperanza Spalding singing Earth to Heaven for him. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

FDeluxe should perform "Nothing Compares 2 U". Madonna and Sinead should not perform it at the memorial.

Ingrid Chavez would also be awesome to perform at the memorial.

Unfortunately, Sheila E. has stated that she will not be at the memorial. It would have been awesome to see her perform songs such as "A Love Bizzare", "Sister Fate", "The Belle of St. Mark", "Faded Photographs" & "Love On a Blue Train".

There's always time for that to change. If you're going to honour the man you need to have people there who made him the man he was. Sheila E is one of those people. So was Andre, Morris Day and the Revolution. They all need to be there. That set list I posted would be perfect for me but I understand that not everyone likes Lenny, D'Angelo and Janelle Monae. But the other performers, The Time, Revolution, the family etc have to be there. It wouldn't be the same without them. It wouldn't feel right.

I'm going to give a very practical answer... assuming they're looking to fill the statium (55,000 people) for this thing, they need to bring in a range of stars with some kind of wider draw. So...Adele? Beyonce? Kendrick Lamar? Taylor Swift? I'm not sure who has that kind of star power, but I think they have to have some of those people, in addition to his 80s/90s-era bandmates/protegees.

It would be important to make it an all day event that would go late into the night. This way it could have a good mix of live performances and screenings of Prince's performances. Ideally, 50% would be screenings of Prince performances/interview snippets/music videos. Hopefully, the bulk of these screenings would be of his live performances from several of his tours including, but not limited to, the much loved "Sign O' The Times" and "Lovesexy" tours.

Duran Duran continues to dedicate "Save A Prayer" to Prince during their current tour. In fact, they performed it and dedicated it to him a few days before his passing. They deserve to be invited to perform it. Stevie Wonder should also be invited to perform.

Cat should also be invited to speak and/or perform.

This could be followed by The Joffrey Ballet doing their performance of the extended version of "Thunder" that Prince created especially for "Billboards".

They will need big names to pull this off. Lenny, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars ... People Prince respected. No lightweights and no parade of the female singers he mentored. Everyone has to understand someone has to pay the expenses of the entertainers. This is not a benefit show. The band members from his various units didn't get rich - some may not be able to swing it. But they should be there.

Respectfully, because I do understand we all have different ideas about this tribute and I don't mean to be rude or dismissive, but imo...just no.

Nikka Costa would be good. What does everyone think of Alicia Keys performing or saying a few words dedicated to him similar to what she did at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Bria Valente should also be invited.

I don't know how this would even be accomplished or how people would be chosen, but I'll toss it out anyway just for discussion's sake: one of my favorite things to read on this site and other forums, like when the NPGMC forums existed, were REAL behind-the-scenes stories (not like the fake, ridiculous ones on some of those tumblr sites where the stories were just that -- STORIES) of what it was like working with Prince, dealing with him day to day and how he was during his 'off time', stuff like that. Most of the best anecdotes I remember were from PP employees (although there were others that were good too, I just don't recall as well what those people were in relation to Prince - ie employees in other areas, friends, etc.) - Anyway, I think it would be cool if at this tribute, either between songs or in one dedicated block of time, there were either a selection of actual PP employees (or whatever) who got up and related their fun/touching/poignant/funny Prince-related story so everyone in attendance could remember Prince, the man, along with celebrating Prince the genius musician. If getting actual people there is logistically too difficult -- which I can understand! -- then maybe they (meaning the organizers of this tribute) could collect X number of stories, via email or something, written by the actual employees/friends or even random people who had an interesting interaction with him, and one person, famous or not, could read them aloud to everyone. I think that would be nice. - btw, I think of this idea because one time during a Paisley party I witnessed the sweetest interaction between Prince and a little boy. I love remembering that night and seeing what I saw because Prince wasn't "on" at that time, he was just wandering around PP during the party...so what I saw was REAL PRINCE. And that's an aspect of him I think would be great to be represented at this tribute as well as the incredible music he created during his life. - I miss him so much. [Edited 9/5/16 13:24pm]

Those artists I listed aren't necessarily my personal favorites. I'm thinking more about the choice to hold this event in a stadium (not first avenue, not even an arena). It would be sad to me to see the stadium half full or less because the acts don't have a wide enough ticket-buying appeal. And I do think it's interesting to see prince's influence on acts in their heyday now in addition to collaborators from years past. I would definitely agree with the previously mentioned lineups if the venue were smaller...

I think this would be good. Didn't she perform at one of the celebrations? And Norah Jones (who I love. well, I really only love her Little Broken Hearts album but still...)

Martika should be invited to perform "Love Thy Will Be Done".

Oh I definitely undertand your reasoning for and it makes sense..and I agree tih you that it would be sad to see the stadium not filled because there wasn't a wide enough appeal to draw a crowd. - I agree with the bolded part of your comment as well. - What about Beck? He and Prince never collaborated, but he is clearly a big fan and Prince was an important influence on him musically. Plus he's a good performer and a classy guy. I think he'd be a good contributor to the tribute (obviously I'm a Beck fan).
