"Strangest" outtakes

Hey everyone, what are your opinions about Prince's "strange" outtakes? The kind of songs I'm refering to are ones such as, say, Others Here With Us or All My Dreams. Are there any that you feel are "too weird" for you? Or does everyone miss Prince's odd side? I DEFINITELY do and value this side more than anything about him...my votes for weirdest are: the above plus Cosmic Day, The Ball, Me Touch Myself and certainly the recently shared Velvet Kitty Cat....what are YOURS?

Adonis & Bathsheeba always sounded like a self parody to me; I can't tell if it's a joke or not. I don't even know if I like it or not.

Yes!! Others her with is ... is not only strange but one of my favorite songs in Prince's whole catalog..

the production if made of continuous samples of a woman's crys, screams, and whimpers. On top of
thunderous kick drums and a eiry melody

lyrically he touches on depression, loneliness, suicide, and death.

AMAZING COMPOSITION FROM THE PARADE ERA

I really LOVE this song...it is chilling and peculiar at the same time as Prince delivers this tormented vocal that is a voice I never heard before or since from him. And, crazily, it's a little under 3 minutes! What would you guys say about By Alien Means? Also some suicide references in that one, as well as a very quirky arrangement..I would add that to my list lol

I Looooove this song as well, even though I don't hear it as a joke....it comes off to me like a weird parable, if you will. The guitar solo at the end kills me everytime, however!

I've always thought "Can I Play With U" sounded a little strange.

Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

Alien means and all the songs listed above are pretty great ... I didn't care for them at first but have been grouping songs by tone and production quality and time period recording so as to hypothetically recreate the full album as intended at the time ... In that context these weird songs tend tobfit nicely and end up as stand out tracks .. Taken in bulk mixed with other eras they can sound quite odd and out of place ...

That was an awful track. Was this the one he offered to Madonna for Like a Prayer?

RIP sad

How 'bout God Is Alive? If you can open a song with a line like "God is coming like a dog in heat", then I think that qualifies as weird. confused wink

"Wasted Kisses" creeped me out the first time U heard it. eek The sound of the heart monitor flatlining...

Small dark room that's where I let you, smother
In front of your gut, toned other, why should I care?
Cheap perfume all over those burgundy stockings
The ones I tied you, up with I shoulda just left 'em there
(Shoulda just left 'em there)
Why'd I waste my kisses on you?

To have Mavis Staples sing that line ups the weirdness considerably as well! Other tracks I find really unusual are 4 Lust, Fuschia Light, his version of Melody Cool, Purple Music...damn I'm thinking there's more strangeness in his catalog than I initially thought! (The Line is another, see what I mean?) biggrin

And what about the song he gave to Patti LaBelle, I Hear Your Voice, where he's singing "I even bought a new dress"... Damn! Imagine there's a version in the Vault of Nasty Girl where Prince says, "I need 7 inches or more..." nuts horny

This one plus Adonis & Bathsheeba and Our Destiny are Prince at his all time most psychedelic weirdest. Even the Fab Four's Sgt. Pepper and The Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request can't compare in terms of sheer craziness... Amd they used mind altering substances... confuse

I KNOW! His version of Jealous Girl is just as out there....I've even read joking speculation there may be a demo of Sugar Walls in existence! eek
