This is just what I'd hoped to find. It takes appreciation to a different level, one with more understanding of Prince's music and deep talent. Thank you for sharing the link.

The way the whole set works brings to mind black scholar Albert Murray’s understanding of the “Saturday Night Function” during the period of early jazz, which the theorist contrasted with the role of the Sunday morning gospel service. In discussion with Wynton Marsalis, Murray described the Function as “a purification ritual where you get rid of the blues. And as soon as you get rid of the blues, it becomes a fertility ritual. . . . The union of lovers, which is the salvation of the species! . . . If it’s not sexy, forget it.” On his “One Nite Alone” tour, Prince reversed the chronology, putting the sermons during the main gig, and providing erotic release at the aftershow. Both halves of the experience should be fascinating for any fan of this elite composer and performer.

An 8.6 score? What a joke. That disc is a 5 or 6 at best.

Pshh one of his worst periods ... ever notice how groups put out a live album when they have a stinker of a record .. P did it with 3121 too .. His other huge stinker of a record ... I do agree the 3rd disk is best but that is not saying much ...

You're welcome! I love reading others interpretations of his work, and this one is pretty cool....
