The Music: Now that 4+ months have passed,

...what era of music are you listening to most right now?
I'm with the most recent music presently, especially AOA, HNR Ph2 and my Montreux 2009 DVD.
Haven't listened to much of the older stuff since May, except for Adore and a few others.
I'm finding that the newer music is keeping me more in the present and less sad, although it touches me deeply as well. Much of the time though it makes me just smile. 🙂
Presently groovin on This Could Be Us. My gosh golly, his vocals are inCREDible.

The first 3 months, I was wrapped around his last 4 projects, but now I've started creating my own compilation CDs, a variety pack of my favs from the 90's - 2000's, and concert CDs.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

The first month or two I was listening to his unreleased tracks from 1982 to 83. I love his Jamie Starr alterego too it was very noticable around that time.

Now I pretty much listen to whatever, unreleased or released from 1978 to 1994ish.

I am starting to examine more closely the era that I listened to the least, the post TGE to Musicology era, . Therre is some good stuff there despite the unevenness.

The past month I have also started listening to his live music, which has been really a thrill. Living between the coasts of the US meant that I rarely got to see him. I never really knew how incredibly diverse his tours and concerts were. It is a joy to hear old tracks redone in a new way, as well as discover tracks that he enjoyed doing live that weren't essential studio tracks. The past week I listened to 20ten 20ten live, Montroux (2013) and Piano & Mic (Atlanta).Astonishing how one person of any age would be so great in so many different styles. He leaves the other musical superstars in the dust in this area by a large margin. So, it just seems to be a great celebration of Prince to listen to his live recordings. I sure hope they release some legit live recordings soon.

Our guy was well and truly blessed with a gift. I watched the interview he had with Mel B again on the Beautiful Strange video recently (I really love that song and the interview is so relaxed) and Mel asked him where he got his talent from and he said it was a gift from God and I found myself nod nod nod in agreement. I think it's one of the many reasons why a lot of us find his loss so hard as he is so irreplaceable.

Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

Well, I'm listening to pretty much everything! I have a playlist of >350 tracks from "For You" to "HnR2" and I just play them randomly. Have tried to wean myself off and managed to last a week!
I've got all his stuff apart from the late 90's early 00's - I got a bit lost after Emancipation until Musicology so I'm going to be exploring that missing period next.
Have really enjoyed seeing his live stuff on YouTube (even though I know he'd disapprove) but it gives those of us who didn't get the chance to see him perform very often the opportunity to see his virtuosity in action. His live performances take the music to a different level. I especially enjoy his performances at North Sea Jazz 2011 (The Love We Make is an amazing performance - the vocal is superb of course and the closing guitar solo is just JOYOUS; Bambi is another highlight) and at Montreux Jazz Fest 2009 - Empty Room is performed with a huge degree of intensity and emotion, both in the vocal and guitar (no surprises there).

Sorry to babble on, but can't share my enthusiasm for all things Prince with anyone apart from on this forum (which I didn't know existed till recently - damn!)

What a huge loss he is. What a huge gift he was to us. Prince IS music.
