Prince's 1997 Chris Rock interview

I felt that Prince gave his most direct answers & was playful at the same time.
I'm amazed that when chris asked him
"Have u ever been involved with organized religion@?
Prince gave a no sir answer..
Was forced to go to church & being a part of the choir was the end result..
He said people shouldn't fear God..
God forgives easily..

A year later joins a cult..

Oh well..

Ironically was very normal here for the last time..
From 1998 on..

He had hypocritical tendencies we are finding out.
Someone should do a study re his specific personality.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I just watched that interview again and I don't seen any contridictions. Prince was deeply spiritual. You heard him say here that "Let's Go Crazy" is about God and satan but censors wouldn't allow him to say "God" on the air (and that is sadly crazy). He had to use the metaphors "let's go crazy" for God and the elevator for satan.

After watching so many interviews and reading so many remembrances from those who knew him personally--stories that have flooded media since his passing-- I've found a consistent pattern of integrity and reverance that deepened as he matured. It is that together with his poetry and none-to-match music that is the connection his "friends" (not fans/fanatics) feel. It is why the loss is so intensely personal across cultures.

A musical genius, there is no hypocrisy. Just growth and development--he talks about that in this interview, about social responsiblity. The man was inventive and said in at least two candid interviews that when everyone is doing something (cussing or whatever) the gimmick loses its effect, so he would move in the opposite direction as a performance tactic.

"Hold on to your souls y'all. We got a long way to go. Thank you! We love y'all!"

It was a very relaxed interview. I really lived how he mentioned that the roadies were just very good at what they did too. As far as joining a cult I don't see the JW as one, simply another one of the many, many thousands if Christian denominations like Catholicism ir Protestantism. People seem to define cults purely on membership levels.

JW is a cult. Christians believe Jesus is the son of God, who died on a Cross, as well as the Holy Trinity. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but I can't believe a true Christian would call Jesus a nimrod (unless under duress or undue influence or pressure [LG]). Cirstianity is not some 1800's made up religion by someone who cherry picked parts of the bible and rewrote to suit his own agenda/ideas (bunch of Greek/Latin translation mombo jumbo). IMHO

Well, firstly, I'm not a JW but they absolutely do believe Jesus to be the son of God and they believe he was crucified. Just out of interest which if the many, many versions if the bible si you follow? There are thousands if denominations of followers. The history if the bible includes removed books, edits, translations and alterations. Regarding cheer picking, it's not possible to follow the bible without selecting various things to follow and those to not.

Prince was deeply depressed & larry graham lured him in..
His music lost that edge after he became a JW..
Granted rainbow children/ one night alone period turned out good music..
Overall, his music suffered in the long run.
Prince back in his prime would be nasty one minute then sing about God the next.
That made his output exciting because HE could do anything musically.
He had to use the the word" duck" instead of fuck.
Prince's music was totally safe sounding since the year 1999.

I just feel there are too many rules with Scientoligy, Born again's, & Jw's..
As well as with vegans..
They all have themes of " there is something wrong with your life if u don't think this way"

I would not necessarily say that he had hypocritical tendencies, but rather what many Christians would consider is a war between a person's spirit and their flesh. We know what we should be doing or not doing, but the physical desires sometimes win. It's the whole basis for Christianity. It's impossible for us to keep all commandments / scriptural laws, so therefore we need Jesus to, as Prince's lyrics said, "Make you good when you are bad".
