I also feel it's too soon, but perhaps that's the whole point? To make people start talking about PP as a museum, concentrate on that and fan tours and the lot, while ending all this talk about his possible addiction.

[Edited 8/25/16 9:43am]

Anything to get the focus off his death and maybe get people into a happier place. That's why I can't wait for the tribute concert details to be announced. I want to be celebrating his life not obsessing over his death. That's why I had to stop posting in that other sticky thread. It was just putting me in a very bad place emotionally and physically.

Me too.

My heart is heavy because this is another reminder that he is gone but I support the family's decision and will visit as soon as I feel up to it. The way I see it, his energy will always be present there.

Will go and visit years in the future. if its still open. I will never completely get over his death. Still in disbelief. Want it to be a music venue or music school, not a museum. Full of life with music flowing threw the building. Its a travesty. Just gathering dust.

I have to admit this is bittersweet for me as well. As I was watching the story on the news, I looked at my wife and choked up. I find it unsettling how emotional this whole thing still makes me lol

I was excited and not too surprised this is happening so quickly. He will never be of more interest than he is right now. His legacy will last our lifetimes and then some of course, but the interest in everything HIM is at its peak and this is a strong business move on behalf of the estate.

I live here in the Twin Cities area and will be going. So much happening here in the next month and half. Mayte performing here. The Revolution performing here. The museum opening and of course the tribute concert. It warms my heart that so many share my feelings for Prince.

If you happen to see a black car with a white prince in the rear window...it just might be me wink Say hello!

I am in the minority here, but I do not feel it's too soon. I feel giving Prince fans access to Paisley Park from the U.S. and all over the world will help bring closure - if that is even fully possible. I am shocked that it is happening in October but get the move due to the tribute concert. I feel it is a nice gesture for all the fans that are coming from all over to be able to tour the inside of Paisley Park and not wait till next year, or years after that. Let us just be happy it is not being sold and we can be part of this experience.

I think the only reason they are rushing to open PP so soon IS because so it will coincide with the tribute concert. I think that is the driving factor. I think that's a good gesture toward people attending the event, even though it may be too soon for some fans.

Welp, Sheila E. was on Good Day Philadelphia and said it was too soon to open PP. I wonder did she know they were working on this and did share this opinion with the family? I hate the fact that this stuff gets played out in public. And I love Sheila but she doesn't have to deal with the estate and managing his affairs. She can show up at a memorial or do a tribute performance and then go off to her life. She doesn't have to figure out how bills are going to be paid and where the money is going to come from to pay estate taxes in January. I feel for the family and everyone involved because these money issues can't just be pushed aside. It sucks all around. sad

I don't feel I have the need to go - it may be different if I was in the USA so closer. I would've loved to have gone while he was still with us – the magic, tangibility, the potential. But for me he's everywhere anyway in his music and pictures and videos I have. Really pleased for those who want to go and now have this opportunity. And who knows what P woulda done - there are loadsa things his been working towards down the years that haven't seen fruition.
.
I may now if I'm over on Manchester smoke a rollie or two at the Academy or his
mural off Oldham Street. All wistful like.
.
Love you purple family - I won't go, but I know a lot of us need to. Pray it's done tastefully and with more thought than the recent Twitter fuck up.

The gift shop idea is what kills me. Just. Can't. But I've been dreaming of a "music buffet." Where you can burn CDs of music you want. All of it. B-sides, limited releases, bootlegs. Every song you ever wanted but couldn't get. sigh I can dream...

That's an excellent idea! biggrin

I'll probably have to wait until after winter to make my pilgramage. October is not a good time to leave work. And it going to start getting very cold in the region after October, and I'm pure SoCal stock, I couldn't deal, I'd faint. So I'll have to wait until Spring pout but who knows what new stuff will be then.

the fact that he passed at paisley under weird circumstances, that have yet to be defined, makes it super soon for fans to be touring, for me. if he had not passed there, maybe, but for me way too soon. they will be making bank on the memorial, and there are $300 million dollars, probably about half after intesate costs, worth of assest that can be used to hang on to the park if that is what the family chooses to do with the money. it feels like deflection from the sad news of the week, and like a respectful morning period has not passed. as much as i would like to go while there is still the "prince aura" hanging in the air, it just feels too fast and too sad.

I don't want to see the elevator or tourists smiling whilst they take selfies in front of it like I saw at the pools at ground zero a couple of months ago lest their next selfie be of a fat lip.

Would you kindly stop by Chanhassen City Hall and tell them their site already crashed? Do they not realize that we are legion? eek

It does seem very soon. I wonder how much could be generated realisticslly from this venture- i assume the tours will only form part of the building's income. If they had 300 visitors per day/7 days per week would generate around 600k a year before any deductions. Does that foot-fall even sound realistic? I have no clue. Seems like such a problem - Prince's touring kept the lights on. Now he's gone. Nobody is buying music on a mass scale anymore - i just wonder where they will generate enough income to keep the place going in the future. I'm sure better minds know what they're doing.

Probably not as much as Elvis. Prince was/is big but Elvis was bigger. Maybe make it a seasonal thing.

Where is the $300M? How much of that is actually liquid and could be turned into cash if needed? At this point we have to trust that there are people involved with the estate that know what they're doing. If we can't do that then I guess we have to shake our heads in amazement/disappointment that Prince didn't have a will or didn't have all this laid out so people would know what his wishes were when he wasn't here.

Agree with you. I'm appalled at all the bitching and complaining everywhere about the current action plan re Paisley Park. People have bitched repeatedly that they want PP to be a museum...the trust lets them know it's gonna happen and they have a plan....then there's continual bitching that it's too soon, not being done right, anger that there's a fee for a tour, etc... Who the hell is supposed to pay taxes and all manner of upkeep and staffing for PP...the heirs? GTFOH, why should they? Go ahead and keep it up and when they say forget it, there's no way to pay the taxes so they are selling PP to get rid of that debt then those who are bitching will have no one to blame but themselves. They don't owe us ANYTHING but have made an effort to keep PP for the fans. Wth is wrong with people? Be happy they are recognizing that fans want to see this happen and STOP bitching about it!

I swear that some days I think Prince fans think they are entitled to everything for free. Where did anyone EVER get that idea?

I also think it's too soon, but that's for ME personally, and I am not gonna bitch about it. I just won't go until I am able to handle it. I haven't been able to come to grips with his death yet, but there are many out there that have and are really thrilled about this. I'm not gonna drop misery on their happiness.

I do think they would have done this regardless....the Jan tax bill isn't our concern but it's certainly theirs and they need to come up with a plan to help pay that bill.

I hope they don't allow photos. I'm involved with a historic stately home in England that doesn't allow them. They like to preserve the mystery so more people pay to do the tour.
