Hey Guys, So I hope this is okay to post this in a new thread. I know others have posted things like this previously, but I couldn't easily find those threads. ANYWAY, I got this tattoo done last week on Thursday. I just wanted to share with you guys. I hadn't told anyone about it. It was just something I really felt compelled to do. I am not someone who does things like this and I even had a HUGE fight with my kids a few years back when they came home with matching tattoos on their arms (they are 28 and 22 now). ANYWAY, I thought long and hard and waited for a few months before making the appointment, then had to wait another 2 months for it to happen. Consulted with the artist for over an hour about 2 weeks prior to the appt and then we sat for another hour or so discussing edits and things before we actually started last Thursday. So, I put a LOT of thought into this! Then when it was done, I totally freaked out! It was just big and so obviously there on my back shoulder!! I panicked for a few days but through each day of panic, I still saw the beauty of it and I still loved what it meant to me. So last night, I got home and told myself "YOU SIMPLY JUST HAVE TO TELL THE KIDS!!!" So I showed them the picture below. And they were both like "MOM, is that YOUR back?!?!?!" ....I then removed the jacket I was wearing to reveal it in person! The only negative thing they said was they couldn't believe I kept it from them and that they were mad I did it alone! I swear, I have great kids and I can't believe I was afraid to tell them!!!!! BUT of course they both reminded me I was so wrong to fuss so much when they got theirs a few years back (theirs is a Kid Cudi Moon Man tatt). Of course they'd fuss about that though, right!?! LOL .. BUT I IMMEDIATELY felt relief and now I only see the beauty in my tattoo!!!! I was just so afraid of what my kids would think or how they might've reacted. I know I don't need their approval, but having my kids proud of me means THE WORLD to me!! So, I woke up really happy today and I wanted to come here and share with you guys. I am so happy I have this beautiful artwork with me forever. Prince has been in my life since I was 16 years old - I am now almost 50 - and I just feel really good to have this. My son did ask me "out of all songs - why those lyrics?" ...and I simply responded as I've said before - I've loved Sometimes it Snows in April always. But since Prince passed, that song just resonates deep down to my soul. Because this year it snowed Purple Sadness in April, and I think this song will always touch my heart in a very sad, but beautiful way. For me, personally, these are the perfect lyrics to have included. Anyway, my purple fam, I've only showed a few people this so far, but now I'm ready to show the world!!! I hate that he's gone, and it still hurts so very deeply, but I'll always have this tattoo with me forever and it just gives me a bit of personal peacefulness and comfort to know I do.

I agree! My kids truly are awesome. I feel kind of crazy to have been antsy to share with them!! But like you said "Mom is human too!!!"

I've been consulting with my tattooist about one and I shall be booking it soon, can't wait to get it. How long did yours take? I've been told 4 hours for the one I want! Ouch!

Mine took a little bit over 3 hours. We had actually talked about some shading around the symbol to make it pop more. But after she did the lyrics, I asked to look at it and told her I was happy as it was. I honestly don't think I could've handled any more. It wasn't THE worst pain. I had 2 natural childbirths!! But it was far from being an easy peasy experience!!! It hurt!!! Wow!! I still can't believe I was able to sit through it!!! Good luck with yours! I am actually happier each day with mine and I'm sooooo glad I did it!!!! I know you'll be super happy once you decide to do it too!!!

Good call, it looks perfect the way it is! I had so many ideas with mine, I got a little carried away at one point but my artist is amazing, I stepped back and we looked at it and decided it was perfect. Mine took 12 hours split in between 6 sessions

purplediamonds ha, i've had two childbirths also . I had a tattoo done on my shoulder in the past but I don't remember the pain, maybe it too is like giving birth in that you forget the pain once you have something beautiful to look at. I'm thinking my one will gp on my thigh, I don't know if that is a painful place or not lol
