What's your favorite live version of Little Red Corvette?

Mind would have to be Coahella 2008. I love the bluesy/jazzy guitar solo. Eat your heart out John Mayer. cool

He did one in more recent years, where he broke it down (which I'm not always a fan of with his songs), and changed "Slow down!". It worked really well. But I like it on the 1999 tour, too.

I dug the little piano-based take in the SOTT movie.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Yea, I don't know. And I'm not conflicted, I just don't know razz. I downloaded a live version about six years ago and I know it's from Chicago because P drops a "Chi-town!" afterwards. The song is just over six minutes long and the intro is four minutes. Prince doesn't get into vocals until the 4:10 mark. That intro grabs me, hypnotizes and locks me in. If this sounds familiar to anybody and they know the venue that'd be great smile.

I'm not a huge fan of the "slow down" versions though when he lays down on the piano it gets me every time.

The P&TR live 85 version - love the long keboard intro, when Wendy is throwing flowers to the audience - fabulous

I haven't heard many live versions,, but I can't imagine one being better the this last concert (late show) ever in Atlanta. It was brilliant how he mashed up LRC, Dirty Mind, and the Peanuts instrumental into one beautiful song. After I heard it, I couldn't get it out of my mind off of it for days after hearing it (I heard a recorded version unfortunately The Early show version was good but due to starting the entire concert with the mashup, the screaming was so loud it was somewhat disruptive.

I love the "slow down" versions. Montreux 2009 preferably.

I love the Atlanta version and during the Peanuts solo he starts laughing. I really do think in many ways he was a kid at heart.

I like many, many of them but none were the full album version. the full album version, only gets to really cooking after the radio edit. I knew that at 14 and I know it today as I perform it to the end, the audience doesn't really get into in until the second half. Why Prince never did it, who knows, he must not have wanted to for some reason or other. If he did it justice like he did Purple Rain, I think people would still be raving about those performances today, instead, he has a lot of great abbreviated versions. I like the Montreua version where he comes close to playing the solo exactly the same as it was on record, I like the third eye girl version where his young member plays the solo better than anyone else ever has, I also like the piano versions and I absolutely love the acoustic guitar version from musicology. I just wished he would have done the full version, only he knows why he didn't.

So I was wanting to ask the same thing a couple weeks back. I love a version of LRC, but coudnt figure out where it came from. It's all guitar, I believe (and drums). Starts out with a long guitar wail, like 4 or 5 times. It's 6:15 long and when he says Trojens it sounds kinda slurred or almost like he says "tronee instead of trojens". Then he says "you wanna sing". He lets the audience sing the "place where your horses run free" and "makes it alright". Then says baby "huh?" He does the "slow down, slow down" part like others were saying. I absolutely love this version. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE IT WAS PERFORMED???? I've seen some versions that are close, but not exactly the one I have. I have no video, only audio.

i think that was the coachella performance, or it may have been the montreaux, i have it on my mp3. the slowed down version where he calls with "got to slow down" and they reply with that.

Maybe it's Coachella because I have Montreaux full show and it's not that one. The one I have is all guitar and drums. Montreaux has a few notes of piano, etc. The one I have is straight guitar. They do yell slow down at the end, but for a lot longer than the Monreaux one. (Just listened to the Montreaux version now). I wish I could get my hands on the Coachella concert. Have a few songs from it, but not the whole thing. What I've seen of it is magical! Something in the air that night I think. nod

I thought you said what's your favorite line , my answer to that is " I guess I shoulda known by the way you parked you sideways that it wouldn't last ". Anyway, What is the best live version? And for some reason this song makes me cry now
I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

Finally! A connoisseur.

There was a VG- mobile phone video of it on YT, but it looks like it's been sent to limbo by the Sheriffs.

The "Slow Down" from Montreux would have been the stuff of legend, if he just sticked to that one time.

But then he repeated the gimmick over and over through the years, and kinda killed it.
I mean, I've seen some videos where he goes on for minutes.
Too much emphasis about not much, if you ask me.

It's like those never-ending versions of "Purple Rain" circa 2010, with the sudden stops.
By the 15th time, even the most hardcore fan goes "Man, finish it already!"

Well of course. That was utterly brilliant.
Not sure if Denise would have liked to be remembered as Prince's strongest sexual obsession...
But he sung it in a way that was more a praise to the magic of the woman than something trivial.
