Maybe "Prince unauthorized" or "Slave Trade" the latter is about 3 hours long though

Haven't seen Slave Trade--I'll have to check it out. I was going to recommend the Omnibus doc. wink

Slave Trade of course! By far the best Prince documentary I have watched. A bit lengthy but its very detailed, unbiased. I reccomend every Prince fan to watch this. It was On Demand under Axis TV for about 2months after he passed.

i think i want ya

haven't seen too many great ones, or rather, ones that i would put in the category of some of the books on him. I guess the BBC one was the best, like i said though, haven't been that many. The one interviewing pepe willie and chazz was ok, if low budget. I don't think he's had a proper one done on him yet.

If he is new to Prince and not a fan as such then omnibus is probably the best all rounder. It's short enough and informative to probably hold his interest. Slave Trade is good but it's quite specific to a certain point in Prince's career, that and the sheer length of the thing will probably bore the tits off your fiance.

The BBC one was the best. I loved all the candid shots of watching him work...especially during such a creative period in the 1980s.

There isn't one yet. It remains to be filmed. And with more info being released now after his passing, it's too early to start filming one.

Slave Trade was excellent. Really got into the logistics of the WB deal and what all happened between D&P and Emancipation and good insight into his "comeback" era starting with Musicology. Loved it.

As a Prince fan, you kinda have to see them all for yourself. But none are very good as dcumentaries. Just fan fodder. Worth it for anyone with any interest in Prince, but they are as deep as anything on Entertainment Tonight, with realy low production values.

A proper Prince doc would have to cover a lot of ground. Good docs are usually labors of love, because there really is no money in making them. The ones made so far, were done on the cheap but are hardly labors of love. This goes doubly for all the early ones that were churned out to merely quickly cash in on him.

also, now that he's gone, maybe the people who were reluctant to either come forward or to tell as much as they otherwise would can talk. I would watch any Prince docu but one problem I've seen is that, at least in the bbc docu, the interviewees seemed to be a bit too close to Prince and didn't have any objectivity. Also, I bought a great dvd of Prince interviews, listening to Prince can really strain your patience because it's always an odd mix of brilliant insight, wierd crypticness/mystery making and humility. Sometimes, even now, I find it hard to watch his interviews because he was stuck in that mode for so many years.
