Your Favorite You Tube Concerts?

Of course no links or such.

But..of the many, many concerts out there what are your favorites currently on You Tube?

I'm just trying to catch up.

Audio only is fine too.

the dortmund one is a great one. the 1999 and the controversy tours really opened my eyes in a couple ways. One being that I didn't know that his singing and his dancing was that good as a live act at that point. He was the first to say that his lower vocal register was weak, well, he worked hard and got it up to par in no time. The evidence was him singing almost all of his previous albums in falsetto and then using his lower register on 1999 and by the time of purple rain, he had a versatile voice with some of the best screaming ever done in the genre. He only got better with age too, even his last show his voice was as good as ever. It just shows the man's discipline and dedication. Yesterday I was watching Culture Club doing one of their hits 30 years later and Boy George sounded nothing like he used to, probably due to his lifestyle (drinking, smoking, not keepin in practice) prince sounded fantastic that night in Atlanta, he left the room smoking, in fact, I think it'll be looked back upon as a symbolic show as his finale and a coming full circle, his rapport with the mainly black audience would make someone unfamiliar with his career disbelieve that it wasn't always like that. Anyway, lots of shows that I haven't gotten to yet and nearly all of his stuff is already excellent, so good in fact that when he actually did have a "good" day, it was so great that he'd knock your socks off.

I think I've posted this before.

But back in the 90s, I randomly picked up a bootleg called Hallowed B Thy Name. It was a Gold aftershow (probably during the Ultimate Live Experience time period). It was an audience recording, and was just amazing. I never thought about there being video.

Fast forward to May or June, and up pops this video in Brussels. I'm ......I'm beside myself. I never thought I'd see that show. I just loved it so much at the time, because I so cherished the mid-90s with Exodus, Come, Gold, and Chaos & Disorder. So much great material. So this show in Belgium was just ....well, it was GOLD. I downloaded it immediately.

Lovesexy shows are fun since it's the only Prince concert I've ever seen, in Los Angeles November 1988.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm going to assume you're being facetious. smile The show I mentioned he chants "Prince is dead!" a lot.

The 3 North Sea Jazz festivals in 2011 (with the most beautiful performance of Purple Rain ever, in my upinion). And the Welcome to Europe 2011 in Ahoy, a 2 houres medley of al his hits. Saw al 4 of them, so glad that they are on YT.

All of those are great, lemme just add the Melkweg (second night) to the list. I didn't even know that show was filmed. It wasn't really an aftershow, because it was the night before the Ahoy concert; a "pre-show" maybe? Also, the opening night of the Nude Tour in Rotterdam in 1990 because it brought back memories of my very first Prince concert.

I just watched the Rock In Rio show last night. I thought it was a really bad show with too much emphasis on Rosie Gaines and The Game Boys. Musically, most of the arrangements sucked, too. mad

I had much more fun watching the two 1981 shows, First Avenue 1983 and Parade in Stockholm 1986. Those were really great and enjoyable. smile razz

I also watched The Family at 1st Avenue 1985. Man, that started out awful, but improved with the last songs. St. Paul looked like Frankenfurter with all that make-up, LOL. lol

Looking forward to watching the 1987 New Year's Eve concert and 1999 in Houston next. Those ought to be great. razz

The rest I'd already seen. Prince And The Revolution Live 1985, Lovesexy 1988 and prince: The Beautiful Experience are the very best. I might just watch those again. wink

I had never seem much of the Parade Tour until recently and MY GOD the expanded Revolution was something else. I had only seen the 'Anotherloverholen....' video back in the day.

Lovesexy Tour is my favorite as well. The Cross alone is everything.

I was there. Loooong fucking wait cuz Prince was stuck in a snowstorm because dude had to drive from Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Band played on rentals because most of the instruments were already shipped to the next gig. This was an aftershow announced prior to the regular show the day before. Regular show was somewhat of a disappointment because Prince was tired after the Holland gigs the days prior, so this aftershow was great compensation. Sold 4,000 tickets in a couple of hours; capacity was 8,000 so they closed off the upper rings. One of the last concerts in the "old" Vorst Nationaal IIRC, a couple of weeks later they started a massive overhaul of the place to increase the capacity and improve the sound.

I recently watched some of the 20ten shows on youtube. From Roskilde, Berlin and Arras. Full shows are on you tube.

I really liked to watch these loose and funky performances and also liked seeing Sheila E and Prince on the same stage.

I've been to Arras in 2010 and it's still one of the concerts of which I have the beste memories. Prince was in a really good mood that night and the setlist was great.

It's really amazing how Prince's stage presence grew from 1979 to 82..
On that 1999 tour.. Splits, spins, jumping off of rafters, etc..
He was in constant motion & went all out..
Prince didn't have to do that but he put his heart & soul into it..
He strived to be the best.. In that era 82 to 88 ..
Prince was at his best live..
But who knew back then, that would cause pain to his hips so many years later..
It goes to show we are all human & constant movement takes a toll on your body..

^There were a few moments in the 90s that I was thinking, wearing high heels all the time... that can't be good for you... But who knew it would lead to this... Whenever I watch an old clip and I see him dancing in heels, I'm in awe that he could do that, but at the same time, it feels... uneasy to say the least... sad

The only one that I've watched/listened-to-while-working is the New Years Eve 87-88 gig at Paisley with Miles Davis. One helluva show.

if he'd probably stopped or slowed it down after that era maybe he'd have been ok. he was doing ridiculous splits into his 40's and danced up to a year before he died.
