"June" .....my interpretation (for what it's worth)

"Pasta simmers on the stove in June.
Makes no sense yet, but it will soon."

Have you ever boiled pasta? Doesn't matter whether a its spaghetti or a box of mac n cheese, it's pretty hard to screw up. Put in the water and wait for the slow boil to work its magic. To this day when I make spaghetti I pull a noodle from the pot, throw it against the wall, if it sticks - it's done.

There is one way to screw up your pasta, or at least make one hell of a mess. If you leave your pasta unattended and the heat gets too high, the water will quickly boil over the pot like a volcano and spill into the burner. The smell is horrible.

I think this is the perfect metaphor as to what was going on with Prince's health.

As much as I don't want to believe the AIDS rumors, I unfortunately do. And I believe his disease was simmering along just fine. Then he stopped his meds and left the disease unattended. Things went bad quick. The disease boiled over. And then it was June, and I think we all understand the significance Prince placed on that song.

Between the above possible metaphor, the line: "I'm just here waiting, and waiting..." It's hard for me to believe he was not coming to terms with dying. Fortunately he was a man of faith, and as he clearly stated in "Way Back Home", he doesn't belong here, but in glory with Christ Jesus.

I hope no one objects to my thoughts, but it helps to get them out in the open. Peace.

That's already been analyzed to death, especially the pasta part. http://prince.org/msg/7/423773

I can't even take you seriously with the AIDS stuff. You have no real experience with HIV or AIDS, or you'd have not made those statements. I have friends who have had HIV for decades and aren't on any med cocktail for them. They're healthy, and undetectable viral load in the blood. Even someone with AIDS, instead of HIV can live quite well for a long while.

Prince did not have AIDS, but if you choose to maneuver through life in an illusion, romanticizing his death, then you already have your reward.

And since you mentioned Christ Jesus, even the JW slant of the bible says, in Psalm 69:12, "I am the talk of those sitting in the city gate, and the drunkards make me the subject of their songs." Another translation says, "I am the favorite topic of town gossip, and all the drunks sing about me." I would imagine Prince could easily be saying that if he were to read your post here today.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

To me it's about a relationship that is over and no one wants to be the one to officially end it. He's alone, eating alone, cooking alone and his mind wanders off. Might be simple but I don't see it as a drug reference or a disease reference. I see it as a relationship/death of a relationship reference.

That's not Jesus speaking in Psalms.

C'mon girl. We're both smart people.

It was fine until the AIDS thing was brought up. Even the OP said "unfortunately I do" believe it. It is unfortunate that fams delve into some falsehood and purposely believe a lie. That's why I shut them down. If that wasn't brought up, they could have analyzed rotini all damn day, and I wouldn't have said boo about it.

The other side is that people pull up the AIDS thing like it's 1985. In 1985 it was the worst thing you could try to slay someone with and put them down. It was a black mark, a huge insult, and the underlying idea that being gay was just as bad, and AIDS is a dirty disease for gay men. It's still insulting to gay men and ignorant overall. Ryan White wasn't a gay man. He never made it to manhood at all. Neither are the millions of straight women who contract HIV. It's a stereotype, and the OP is waaaaaay off base with their B.S.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

in regards to "june", you just have to remember what josh said in an interview about
the album: him and prince recorded both "june" and "hardrocklover" in a single night.

i don't think he would've been able to go that low and that personal and then spring
right back and lay down the vocal track for "hardrocklover" -an amazing vocal track
i might ad.

however, we are talking prince here who would lay down basic tracks for 8 songs or
so on a good day. so who knows.

anywho. it's easy to burn pasta, if you make it the italian way and simmer both the
cooked pasta with the sauce in a fryingpan smile

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

--- He signed a contract to do 9 more shows according to the promoter in Atlanta. Set aside a date to open the new stadium. Brought a new 20k guitar and we know of a jazz project and "Orange Is The New Black"for which their is art work were in the can. I believe he was ill and perhaps taking pain meds to deal with the issue but may have had the belief that he had more time. Dr S was bringing him test results the day he die and he had been to the doctor the day before and back on the 7th. Do you need two trips to know you have AIDS. Before the search warrent was sealed Kirk said that he had been in the hospital for treatments in 2014 and 2015 but he did not know for what. Do you need treatments for HIV/AIDS? I just don't see someone with AIDS getting around like he did and making future plans. Also no reason for anyone to die from AIDS today unless they want to and why make plans for the future if you want to die? Besides we have a few people say it was not AIDS and there is more to it. Who the hell knows what that mean?

I don't believe it but it does annoy me that more wasn't done to shut it down at the time. Or maybe I am not aware of everything that was said against it & missed something. I know Lala spoke out about that rumour & I tend to believe her because I wouldn't be surprised if they were romantic.

I will never believe that he thought God would heal him either or that he'd do anything to jepordise his health like not taking meds.

YES! Someone he is estranged from. He's cooking dinner wondering where the other person is eating and with whom, etc. How they both know it's over but who will be the one to approach the subject. It's a song about broken/dead relationship to me, and about being alone.

///// I think our boy was more than a little in love with himself so I doubt he would sick back and allow himself to get ill with something he could prevent. I don't think he would let anything stop him from working. The God heals is some ass hat on gossip site making fun of religion. Now on the gossip sites two other entertainers have AIDS. Oh and they happen to be Black American men who get around big shock about who is being gossiped about.

yeahthat Yes, the pasta is a metaphor, but there's no reason to think it's about anything more dramatic than P suggests it's about, which is a relationship dying and getting older and feeling lonely and bit sorry for himself. The fact that it sounds way more epic than that is b/c P was a fucking genius who could make heartrending poetry out of burnt pasta...

Not like I love my guitar....

I think the song is about both and is operating on 2 different levels. And yeah, I may have gone a little deep, but it's not like P hasn't required us to think about what the hell he's talking about in his songs before. It just seems more than feeling lonely, because he reflects on his life and being in an era where true music isn't appreciated. Also, the line about "Waiting and waiting." I don't think he's saying he's waiting for that muse of his to come back.

Finally, I may (and probably am) way off on the AIDS rumors. But, something was wrong with him, and it wasn't painkillers. I saw the video from his last Atlanta show and while he moved around pretty good, he looked very frail. Not healthy at all. Sorry if my interpretation upset any of you.
