Princes cheesy linn drum sound. Let's be honest here; the only reason Prince used the electric linn drums instead of live drums was because of Bobby Z's lack of drummer skills. For me and my church, I am glad he has abandoned that sound. It was good in it's day, but live drums is the way to go. More funky as well. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Considering Outkast, The Roots and others are still finding funky things to do with that machine, that ain't the case atall. I'm all for live drums but Prince needs to take a trip down memory lane and recall what the fuck he was doing to make that sound so funky.

If the classics w/ the Linn sound are "cheesy" then someone whip me up some fondue.

Cheesy? Are you mad!! LOL
Prince did all kinds of shit with the Linn that no-one else was doing - even groups like The Human League and producers like S/A/W, who used the Linn, weren't doing what Prince was doing with it. Listen to the drum machines on music from the 90s and early 00's - now THAT is SHITE programming!! --------------------

I dig the Linn!
I associate it with Prince "classics" like: 1999 Extra Lovable Let's Go Crazy Computer Blue Baby I'm A Star & many others! If the Linn is "cheesy".. then give me MO CHEESE! I'll see you tonight..

I can't vouch for Bobby Z.'s talent or lack thereof, but I think Prince relied on the Linn to offer far more than a safety net. Prince’s Linn sound is classic and was imitated throughout the industry -- he could have ousted Bobby in favor of a better drummer at any time. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Why couldn't he just sample the Linn sounds and have a real drummer trigger them on some new jams...best of both worlds??? Nowadays with technology, the sky ain't the limit...he can go galactic!! Program some; play some...be free.
