After all this time, I think the autopsy results are not being released because of what is in the report. I don't think it is a privacy issue. If all that showed up was Fentanyl, we already know that, so there would be no new information for the vultures to feast upon. In the years leading up to his death - especially in the last year - Prince was changing. He seemed to be more empathetic with other people. He could "feel their pain." He was reconciling with individuals he had broken ties with in the past. This is just my opinion, but if his death could help another person - if there could be a teachable moment - I think he would approve the release of the autopsy report but only if it would help another person.

I understand people feeling hurt that he is gone and heartbroken. I feel the same. But I do NOT feel like his family OWES it to anyone to spill all of P's problems to the world. I will never understand this mentality. I understand being curious no wanting to know, but it is not our RIGHT! If his family feels like sharing, they will. If not, that's their business. No matter what they do people will criticize them. If they let it all out it would be all gasps of disgust and "how could they do that when they know how private he was! They are just doing it for money." They can't win. No matter what. All I know is P doesn't owe me a damn thing. I am not obligated to know his personal life. I can appreciate the wonderful gift he shared with the world, which is his music, and his legacy. In a way, I feel like I owe him. He was a wonderful musician, neighbor, and HUMAN BEING!

This a million times. I feel I've been consistent about anything here it's that I don't agree with this sense of entitlement or that it's up to Prince's family to bring closure to all his fans. It's not. Everyone has to find closure in their own way.

THIS!!!

And, my two cents worth: I think the family is probably overwhelmed. It is no easy feat to sort out this complex estate. And they let people organise their own memorials in LA etc. which is nice. There have been Prince tributes on TV for the fans.

Organise your own tribute and stop whinging!!

What is it with this sense of entitlement!?!

Sure I would like to know what exactly happened (and my guess it that we will find out one day) but ultimately it doesn't matter because he is not coming back to life. So be sad but life goes on!!

Enjoy the music. There is so so so much beautiful music that he left behind.

Amen and amen!

I conducted a simple memorial/goodbye privately for myself and I have also enjoyed the tributes that have been offered to and by the public. I'm satisfied and I don't feel a burning desire for an "official" memorial from the family or anyone else, although I plan on enjoying whatever remembrances are coming.

I memorialized P in my heart.

That was plenty for me.

Your mileage may vary.

I'll give a 3rd Amen to this. Spot on.

I think for many fans they don't want to be speaking about Prince with someone in 20 years and have the conversation end with, 'How did he die?" "Drug overdose." "Oh, another junkie rock star." Protecting the legacy for many fans, IMO, will have to deal with this one last fact. Reading the autopsy results would end the fighting about it. I do see, however, in conversations on TV and online that people are going past the cause of death and speaking fondly, and openly, about the man as a talent and as a person.

I agree that I don't want the nonfans or casual fans to believe into perpetuity that P died of an overdose because he was a recreational drug abuser.

If it were my brother, I would clear up any confusion by stating emphatically that my brother was not a recreational drug abuser, he actually had been struggling with _____ and that, combined with his weakened state, in addition to taking Fentanyl according to his prescribed dosage led to his untimely demise.

If the public got an official statement from the family, that would end all speculation and rumor and insulting tabloid lies.

Just sayin

Entitlement? Yes please. Patrons of the arts are always entitled. Ask any public television station, starving artist, or symphony orchestra.

First of all, many of the so called 'entitled' fans, that are being spoken of have had their own memorials, and in a timely fashion I might add, so this concept isn't at all new. Also, for the remainder of this post, I will refer to fans as what they actually are, decades long financial supporters of Prince's artistry and legacy, also known as Patrons.

The bottom line is that the patrons of Prince's legacy ARE the bottom line. Ignore the patrons, and the money goes away. This happens to living artists, what to speak of those who have transitioned. In 50 years, Prince will be a footnote, unless thoughtful and wise management of his legacy is maintained, and 'patron' maintenance is a part of that.

Nobody ever expected Prince's family to open up Paisley Park, and allow his patrons to sleep on the floor and have sing-alongs. However, Prince deserved what other icons of his caliber deserved - a televised, or livestreamed send off so that the world, as well as his patrons could be included in the final goodbye, even if it was just remotely. If there was no money, or interest in doing that, fine. I've said it once, and I'll say it for the last time, at the very least put the program online for patrons to download. It's a gesture, and it's free.
