i can really only listen to she loves me for me ... everything else is absolutely unbearable ... this was the first prince record I truly hated on first listen and only felt it got worse with repeated listening ... i have since prince died, listened to it several times since, trying to find something good in there, listened to the one night alone live versions too ... still complete pill head jw brainwashed rubbish .. :y'all aren't with me .. i'm talking bout a theocratic order y'all: lol ... now that is a funny moment .. prince trying to rally his audience to embrace his wordy religious mumbo crapo ... an prince ranting about family names .. dude your name is fucking PRINCE ... a far cry from blackburn .. listening to rainbow children is like watching the phantom menace .. there is so much wrong with that movie I completely forget natalie portman is in it and george lucas wrote it ... its too bad because the title song has a nice hook .. mellow could be good sans most of the lyrics .. the work has a nice groove .. but my gawd the lyrics are just shit .. its like prince was desparately trying to impress larry by spouting JW nonsense over an hour long elevator jazz snoozefest .. prince releasing rainbow children is like donald trump running as a republican ... and i quoth "if i were to run for president i would run as a republican, they are so stupid they would eat up all my lies and elect me" ... now prince .. "if i made so many shitty records that I had to change my name back to prince i would release an album of shitty christian music because christians are so dumb they will buy anything" ... i mean yes .. i get it ... abraham lincoln was indeed a racist ... but do i ever wanna hear either family name or avalanche again ... do they inspire me to rebel like say "blowin in the wind" or "masters of war" or "hurricain" ... does rainbow make me think religions are not all brain dead cults like say even prince own "the cross" "god" "the question of u" ... the answer is absolutely no ... rainbow is the most pretentious pile of religious vomit I have ever forced my self to endure ... but yeah .. she loves me for me is pretty good!

The whole thing is great though - Those final four songs are kind of untouchable.

I find Mellow a bit... mellow but that's the point right! I think I'd like an instrumental maybe though to actually 'get lost in the mellow' the lyics kind of get in the way for me, but in sequence I'd just let it play I wouldn't skip it.

Lyrically, I mean it was ridiculous then and it's ridiculous now, I don't mind Prince throwing out a shout-out to God every now and then but this was a straight up Jehovah Witness recruiting record.

1+1+1=3 could have been one of the funkiest records in Prince history if not for the concept and cringworthy stuff like "we don't give a DUCK".
