These labels are nothing more than tribalism. Doesn't mean anything.

I've been an orger from day one, a Housequaker, a PPML'er, an Amp'er, an NPGMC'er, A Prince Army'er , A New Breeder, A Controverist and a lone fan.

Which one am I? All and none. The 'true fan' thing causes nothing but division. Its not tangable. I'm problably one of the most known and have the 'collection' and experiences people would die for, but it doesn't make me any more a less a level of fan than any other.

'Fandom' is personal, not in the CD racks or fan group membership.

Paisley Park is in your heart, not your membership or longivity.

The first time I heard the term Purple Army was after the Essence Fest when Lil Mo tried to come for Prince and got clowned to within a inch of her life, poor fool. lol Somebody told her to invest in some Depends the next time Prince was in her way and she had to use the bathroom.

After that is when I noticed people referring to the Purple Army a lot.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Prince.org is a discussion forum on the Internet. It has existed for almost 20 years. "Purple Army" is just some dumbass expression that seems to have caught on recently, but it has nothing to do with how we here have referred to ourselves (we call ourselves "orgers", if anything). I can't really recall the term "Purple Army" having appeared here too often. Even the term "fams" appears here more often.

If someone were to refer to Prince fans as the "Purple Army", I'd be almost inclined to think that person has not been a Prince fan for a very long time.

Yes I call myself an Orger too

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

The OP's original comments strongly implied that people should just stop posting here. I found it rather disrespectful, considering how long this site has been up and how long the regulars have contributed to the threads here.

I admit that I wasn't aware the "Prince Army" page had gotten so many likes recently. However, the Facebook format not really suited for discussion in the same manner as it is handled on "traditional" discussion forums.

In any case, the expression is borrowed from KISS, and I agree with the previous poster that Prince fansites should be a bit more original with their approach.

Absolutely, there is room for all sites. I first started posting on Alt.Music.Prince back in the day. There are many hundreds of sites dedicated to Prince on facebook. I think you're right that the discussion format is different here and things remain on the front page lonegr than they would on facebook. I would however probably state that Facebook tends to be more positive that the Org generally.

Regarding originality obviously Housequake, the Org aren't particularl original, the content is the main thing. Certainly Princevault leads the way in this. I think the term was just a way to describe the followers of Prince especiallly during the HitnRun Shows, it proved popular and is very widely used on Twitter and Facebook. If truth be told, I really think the Prince world might benefit from another very popular discussion forum such as Housequake or the Org, a little spreading out might not be a bad thing.

Agree with the bolded. I think another forum would be good as tbh I cringe at the thought of people searching through old posts here & seeing all the hate Prince got as I have done (suprised by the change in attidue of some posters since 21/4 hmm). So somewhere more positive that focuses more on the music & artistry rather than exes etc. (& where you don't have to click into the 1st page of a thread, you can just go directly to the last page lol) would be great.

As for Prince Army or Purple Army- they are more inclusive so it just makes more sense to me.

I could be wrong but i think the prince party uk twitter page started it around 2010. It's definitely been around a few years.
