Prince and Michael Jackson

Was Prince inspired by 'Thriller' to make 'Purple Rain'?
Did Prince want to be as famous as Michael?
Was Prince a Jackson 5 fan?
Was Prince musically influenced by Michael?
Did they really hate each other?
What's the story behind the 'Bad' duet?
Did they really re-record '1999'?
What happened when they both went onstage with James Brown?
Did Prince make a pass at Latoya?
Did Janet want to sound like Prince?

What happened when they both went onstage with James Brown?

MJ was called on stage by James Brown and sang a bit and then whispered in James Browns ear that Prince was in the audience and asked James To call him on stage also. and Prince plyed a little guitar and did some play on the microphone. and walked off to the side and accidently pulled down a prop street light post.

I think Prince was vaguely influenced by 'Thriller' for 'Purple Rain'
There are 9 tracks and the songs are aimed at different markets and in different styles: eg.Rock (Let's go crazy/Beat it), Haunting R&B (Billie Jean, When Doves Cry)
Powerful, overdrawn title song (Thriller/Purple Rain), Ballad duet (Take me with you/The girl is mine), Dance-pop (Baby I'm a star/Wanna Be startin' something)

But, then again Michael Jackson got that mass-appeal idea from 'Saturday Night Fever'!!

Prince vs Michael

Song writing ability... winner, Prince!
Vocal ability ... winner, Prince!
Guitar playing ability ... winner, PRINCE!
Bass " " " " ... winner, Prince!
I could just keep going. Prince is a musician.
Michael is a sideshow oddity that can dance and sing, that's all. fight I am tired of people comparing the two because there is no comparison. Prince has made superior albums and more of them. Michael will be remembered as a sad freak and Prince will remembered as a musical GENIUS!

Prince DID NOT fall onstage at the James BRown concert. He knocked over a prop light pole-and he looked like a bad ass who didn't give a fuck.

The majority of the world would disagree with you.I'm a fan of both guys, and i definately get more positive reactions from People when i say i like Mike despite everything people hear about him!

Mention i also like Prince, and the looks i get sometimes - it's like i smeared a turd under their nose.

You've failed to appreciate one central aspect to MJ. I agree that Prince is a musical genius, and MJ is not of that level of musicianship. However, you fail to recognise MJ's world-wide reputation as a truly captivating entertainer. The facts can't be ignored that MJ has enjoyed worldwide fame (and mania) as the artist pivotal to the phenomenal success stories of both the Jackson 5 and Thriller.

The musical world will remember MJ as one of, if not, the most successful musical artist of our generation. Prince will be remembered as a remarkably gifted musician, a tour de force of the 80's, a genius perhaps, but he will not be given the worldwide respect bestowed upon MJ.

I think I might have been a little harsh but, Prince vs Michael machinegun is no contest. It is like comparing The Beatles to The New Kids On The Block or N Sync nuts . With Prince being The Beatles nod . If you disagree with me that's stoned nuts cool but lets hook up in 10 years and discuss the matter because TIME will not be kind to Michael but, great music will always be great music! I respect musicians and I have very little respect for Lounge Acts ala Murph and the Magictones (watch The Blues Brothers)!!! rolleyes
