Prince Tribute bands.- "Erotic City" is amazing!! While he was alive I never had any inclination to go see a Prince Tribute Band. Well, yesterday we decided to leave the hot sothen california heat and headed for Big Bear Lake, a nearby resort city in the local mountains of San Bernandino. We had a good time there, lots to see and eat. As we were walking we spotted a club called The Cave, and to my surprise a Prince Tribute band was playing that night. As I was looking around, someone who I think was a member of the band asked if I wanted a couple of tickets for the show. Hell yes!
I have never seen a Prince Tribute Band in my life and had no idea what to expect. Would it be cheesy or disrespectful? I had no idea. Well the name of the band is called Erotic City and they were badass. As a long term diehard Prince fan I am really hard to please with Prince covers but the tore the roof off the place. They played hard and true to what fans like us would hope to see. Long extended 80's style head banging grooves. The Band could play and played hard. Other than the lead singer who looked and sang quite a bit like Prince, no one else in the band had any corny outfits, they just played hard. It was about the music more than the image and they did him great justice. The lead singer was awesome and respectful and played guitar and keyboards. The drummer, who when she walked out, I thought was a dancer because of how hot she was, but sat down behind the drums and killed it! Let me know about other Tribute bands I should check out, but if Erotic City comes to a city near you, make sure you check them out. I took videos and will post them later and I'll add a link to their Facebook page too when I have a chance. But damn, They rocked hard and had my head banging as if I was at a hard rock show. Their arrangements were amazing and true to the man himself. They played a a hard energetic show and never let up. Make sure you check them out!!! [Edited 8/6/16 14:57pm]

I have seen it 4 times - it's a must every Vegas trip - I have taken non-Prince fans each time and they all said it was one of the highlights of the trip! SO GOOD. [Edited 8/6/16 19:20pm] Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

I will have to check out that one that's being recommended if it comes in my neck of the globe. With the exception of Purple Reign as mentioned, who by the way has won awards for his show and I would actually attend in a heartbeat if he even changed the line up/era from Purple Rain & The Time BECAUSE of how great he does it! Anyways, aside from that I haven't seen any Prince Tribute Bands. I have however over the course of this past few months attended two different Prince Tribute fundraiser nights at local venues, where various bands perform songs and give thanks to Prince for all he's given us. I loved them. Sure some renditions are a bit... but I really enjoyed hearing people's interpretations - including an acoustic version of Darling Nicki which was sublime!! - also cool hearing some songs I hadn't heard live before. I would definitely attend more. . . Also hoping for a Prince related Cirque Du Soleil show. I attended the MJ one, and Beatles, and a Love Lies Bleeding (a remarkable show to Elton music - look it up - it's AMAZING - Kinda wish THEY would do one for Prince!!) Anyway, I have enjoyed all of these type of reimaginings of the music so definitely get where you're coming from and fully agree Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

Ingela: Thanks for posting info on Erotic City, damn I live close to Big Bear south west of there in So Cal. I missed it!!! I am searching for their next show they are based outta Oregon I believe they play West Coast a lot but no upcoming gigs. +++ PP4: Thank you for posting this vid on Chase and Ovation. Ingela's thread post inspired me look up other tribute bands today and I remember hearing Prince gave his stamp of approval on C&O. They sound amazing especially looked up Nothing Compares to You cover they did, which is damn hard to do. But they did the damn thing on that one, I so want to see them as well. But based out of MN they don't do a lot of shows in So California. They are doing one in San Jose CA this month but too far for me. I will be tracking them as well. +++ Thanks to you all for posting!!
Peace -

I really dislike all tribute bands/acts. Doesn't matter who they're doing, or how competent they may be, it just comes across as terrible cheese.

That's what I thought too, but it wasn't anything like that, at least not Erotic City. It wasn't cheesy at all. No one other than the singer dressed like Prince, they just played really hard. The lead singer didn't even try to say he was Prince just mentioned a couple of times how much we all loved his music and it was very much about the music itself and never a parody or anything disrespectful or in bad taste. I'll post another clip so you can see how much it was about the music and not about the celebrity or image. I know exactly how you feel but I would not be hear recommending them if I thought they were in anyway corny, cheesy or disrespectful. They are just incredibly talented musicians that obviously know his music inside out [Edited 8/7/16 17:57pm]

I agree, they make me cringe everytime; a tribute band is completely at the opposite of what Prince was about. Yesterday at the Wacken fest in Germany, a Dio tribute band used a Dio hologram... i put all that shit in the trash bin because it's where it belongs. PS: i looked at the videos, it's really awful ! The best tribute of all I've seen, this was done before Prince passed away. Adam Levine performing Purple Rain. He nails it. For some reason I can't link it but just do a search on youtube for adam levine purple rain.
