Prince's Retreads

Prince's entire cataloge is unique in that he never wrote the same song twice. This is incredible when u consider how vast his repertoire is. There are however songs that fit together in the same catagory(s). These songs are what I call retreads. In respect they have similarities but are completely different songs. I.E. similar in tempo, feel, energy, vibe and beat.

I have started a list but would like to add more. If any of U can help feel free to add to this thread.

My List So Far:

Cat. 1:
Strawberry Shortcake - The Glamourus Life
Cindy C. - The Black Album
All The Critics Love U In New York - 1999

Cat 2.
The Ride - The Undertaker
Da Bang - Crystal Ball

Cat 3.
Big Fun - Exodus
It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night - Sign o the times
Now - The Gold Experience
The Dance Electric - Andre Cymone

Cat 4.
Chilli Sauce - Ice Cream Castles
Hallucination Rain - Exodus

Cat 5.
Pink Cashmere
Adore - Sign O The Times

Cat 6
Under The Cherry Moon - Parade
Question Of U - Grafitti Bridge

Negro's from Brooklyn play the bass pretty good, but the ones from Minneapolis play it like it oughta should

"Toy Box" - Sheila E.

"Blue Limousine" - Apollonia 6

"17 Days" - Prince and the Revolution

The hook is practically the same across the box.

Let's not forget that "Baby I'm A Star" and "America" used the same drum pattern pretty much.

"Mountains", "Hello" are pretty much one chord songs, except for slight deviations here and there. Also the weird drum accents in "Mountains" are also present in "The Dance Electric".

"Gold" is the 90s' "Purple Rain", but you can throw "The Ladder" into that.

There's heavy cross pollination with "Come", "18 & Over", etc. Also during the mid 90s there, you can a lot of bottom-heavy stuff like "Pheromone", "Acknowledge Me".

Then you have the rockabilly category with "Horny Toad", "Delirious", "Jack U Off", "U Call Me".

And don't forget the biggest one, to me, "Baby"'s hook in "I Hate U".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

.

I just listened to the song "The One" from the album "Newpower Soul" which was released in 1998.

.

It reminded me very much of the song "Anna Stesia" from the album "Lovesexy" which was released in 1988.

.

Am I on the right track with your concept of 'Prince Retreads'?

I always found Party Up & Lets Work were very interchangeable

I know that Party Up is basically Morris...and always think that (as Prince did a fair bit with Morris)...Ok, you do that, then I'll do this.

Oh for crying out loud, two of his hits are basically copies of each other.
