Prince 2000 press conference

I just watched the entire press conference and it is clear that something was going on in his personal life that was affecting him at that time. The press conference was about him changing back to "Prince".....but when he was questioned about his relationship with Mayte he seemed a bit upset and gave a very cryptic response about whether they were in other's lives or not. Did anyone else see it? What your take on the conference?

Yeah he jumped around that a lot. I just wonder why he just did not say that he did not want to answer any questions. I don't think I have ever seen him this uncertain in an interview setting.

Watched it yesterday, and was thinking the same thing. Responses were cryptic about his relationship with Mayte, and almost combative when discussing the Music industry. At one point, he said he needed to ge Larry in there as a balancing force.

I've never been divorced, but several I love have. Not a fun time for any of them.

A sophisticated mass-produced cacophony of no-win situations that aren't right...

I loved this interview.
I got a lot from it including:

1) how he dealt with these unexpected changes in his life (marriage) that couldn't have been easy by spending time in solitude with God to receive guidance (so trusting!)
2) he noticed the wall didn't end and realized there would be more life (my god, we got to see it all happen. Amazing, isn't it?) The next albums and marriage and friendships and romances and tours and the man he became finally...really amazing to get to watch this man's life. He was a very special person.
3) he was so diplomatic...he was courageously honest about how he saw the record industry and what he hoped for - but had a lot of humility so he didn't offend anyone.

He was adorable in his cream colored sweater and glasses.
His train of thought wasn't always easy to follow which makes me want to give him a hug. Sweetie.
He did seem upset about Mayte and was obviously nervous (again, want to give him a hug) but he did a good job saying he wanted to be honest but obviously didn't want to tell people all of his business.
He himself offered later in the interview his same words again, that she and he were doing seperate things. This press conference was a good opportunity for him to speak about it on his own.
I've been seeing lately just how much he really loved Mayte.

He confirmed the reason for building 'The Egg' too - it was designed to be a food facility for the local community, particularly the families of those people who worked in / around PP (he mentions gardeners, by way of an example). The idea was that they could go there and have (I think) free / cheaply available food so as not to worry about grocery bills or having to cook.

.

I noticed he had lots of nice ideas like this but that for one reason or another, they didn't always come to fruition. I read that he bought the huge parcel of land opposite PP in order to build a community hospital but, as we know, that didn't happen, who knows why...

And this, too....is the classic mark of a genius.....so many wonderful ideas running around in their heads....

He needed a partner who's visions were as big as his, one who could get things done and could stick with him. He tried it didn't work out. just imho

I love that 2000 press conference. I appreciate it. Prince discussed some things and addressed them. You can tell that he wasn't comfortable discussing his relationship with Mayte. This is the same press conference I used as a reference on here to confirmed that Prince does have possession of his master tapes because he stated it on there, just not the rights at the time. It's a cool piece that's documented the fact that Prince was ahead of the game in regards to the music industry and where it's headed. He also discuss the fact that there was debate (possibly) around paisley about the process of creating New Master mixes for his back catalog. He wasn't sure if re-recording his music from his back catalog would be necessary when he could possibly simply remix the original recordings. There were debate because there was the risk of possibly Warner suing him for it. He even discussed the previously unreleased project, When 2 R In Love - The Ballads of Prince. It's dope press conference.
