Prince's microphone... I need help from the tech savvy people please. Hello people of the Org. lol.
I'm not sure how to post pictures to show you all what I mean as I haven't posted on this site in a long time but I need a little help if ya'll would be so kind... If you go on to Google and search for "Prince's gun mic" and (Ignoring the gun handle) look at the actual microphone itself... Can anyone tell me what make and model that microphone is? ... I've noticed that Prince has been using these same kind of microphones for much of his career and as I am putting my own PA system together to start performing my own gigs, I'd love to get one for myself... If they're good enough for him, right?
Anyway, any useful knowledge that anyone could impart on this would be gratefully recieved.
Thank you. |

Not sure how to delete the thread but I now know that it's a Sennheiser MD431.

(Yes, it's an MD431.)
I wouldn't suggest using a mic just because Prince used the same model. Chose one that fits your voice and mic technique instead.
I never understood this "if it's good enough for X.Y." approach and I hear it a lot. Usually we don't know why a certain big name artist uses this or that model yet a lot of people immediately assumes that "it must be the best quality then". For one thing: it doesn't tell you anything about a mike's durability, for example, as you don't know how often it is replaced for that big star in question.
Just get what's best for you.

Exactly. So many people I know want to use an SM7, simply because Michael Jackson used it - it's a microphone not typically designed for singing vocals. So f course, when they use it, they end up sounding horrible. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain. |
