Feels kinda generic I don't know....being a life-long Prince fan and knowing how much he valued growth as an artist, the fact that the media has gone back 30-some-odd years and decided to fixate on The Purple Rain Era as the quintessential Prince bugs me. How would Prince feel about being locked into that box (even if there was a tongue and a mirror inside, lol)? Of course we were all shocked and it was very comforting to see the world come together and pay to him out respects.....but the purple memorials and and emphasis on that particular era, is it all just a little generic? | |

Very... sadly, that's the era people remember most - the height of his stardom, but that was just the tip of what he matured to artistically. It was his biggest hit. Its only natural that it be the focus of things. Like Guitarhero says, same thing happened with Michael Jackson and Thriller. Elvis is more remembered for the likes of Hound Dog and Heartbreak Hotel. If Bruce Springsteen died, Born in the USA would be the main focus. | |

It is generic but the Purple Rain era was the pinnacle of his career and one where he was the most commercial. This is the era that most of the general public identify with Prince, therefore it's natural that this is what is celebrated by the masses as that's what they relate to. As for what Prince's opinion on it would be, who knows? I can only assume that he knew the significance of this era on the public as this is when he became a superstar Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985 | |

.I think Prince was very grateful for the PR movie, song and era. Always. I also remember Van Jones saying Prince didn't like being associated only with the past. As the days go on now, I think people will be looking at his other music. A lot already are. And I do think this takes time. amd line other artists, there may eventually be people who are alive now who will never know it. Not everyone has the interest we do and their time will be spent on other things. | |

Agreed Elton john it would be his 70s hits Sting...they would go on about The Police Madonna ..like a virgin I think they're focusing on what propelled Prince onto the world stage and made him an icon. Baby, you're a star.
