This is a cool thread, theres a lot of coming to terms with who we are and should be as a community. I love how some have accepted that we are it now. We are the keepers of that flame and we need to represent Prince with respect but remain realistic. He wasn't always an easy pill to swallow and we shouldn't be either.

.

The new fan v. old fan debate is one for the ages, I've renamed myself so many times I've lost count and I don't know hardly any of you by first name. It doesn't matter. We all come here for the same reason and that is to fan, to commune, and to represent.

.

Most of the older fans are still salty that they had to travel and hunt like primitive man to get a copy of the Black Album, or that their Lotusflower shirts arrived almost at the same time Target was selling the whole thing for a dollar and that these kids these days got all that shit on a zip file. Life goes on.

.

Prince fans are a special lot and I cherish all of the laughs and eyerolls this place has given me for so long. Viva la ORG.

I actually enjoyed - and miss- the hunt smile. But you are correct, it's a different game these days and it obviously doesn't take much effort.

I also miss camping out in the parking lot for tickets the night before razz.

Same here. That was part of the fun. I find that whole online ticket buying morr frustrating than standing in line.

Yeah, the camping out in parking lots thing brought fans together in a way we don't get these days. RIP, human connection.

I enjoy being able to find Prince biographies out of print in one click, but I do miss the hunt as well...I remember as a teen the excitment of finding a hidden Prince vynil at the wrecka stow, place it proudly with my other records and listen to the tracks while reading the lyrics...

Bit of stretch 2 say all older fans are horrid & all younger ones are not. I've seen rubbish from both.

I don't think that anyone said that.

And some of us newbies are older.

I saw Purple Rain in the movie theatre.

I'm seeing a lot of ageism. Which is ironic considering P was born in '58. I'm very aware not all noobs are young. Also not everyone who opened an account in/after April is new. Old voices with new names.

And just because someone wasn't on prince.org doesn't mean they only became a fan when he died. I typically avoid fan sites because there's usually so much gossip and whatnot. But this is the best place to go for up-to-the-minute information, especiallly info that might disappear if the estate is not handled well. confused

Yeah, I kinda miss the good ole days when you just had to scrounge for money to see it again. PR was an awesome thing. Nothing like it on the big screen. biggrin

I only ever did that with the first Star Wars movie, although I do think my mom made me come back a different day. That opening with the words disappearing in the darkness up above was stunning.

I myself have been a 'fan' since '86, didn't go online till '09. So yeah, I get it. Well, let's keep everything crossed the estate is in good hands. Don't think it would effect the org tho.

+1 - Prince fans are indeed special. Very few other artists have a forum like prince.org dedicated to them. I've seen an independent website like this for U2, but MJ doesn't have one, Whitney doesn't have one...this website is one of a kind.
