Okay, I should preface this inquiry by saying I am NOT a huge 'gamer' by any means, but I LOVE Guitar Hero. My favourite is the Aerosmith edition SO much fun. But that would be NOTHING compared to if they released a Prince edition of Guitar Hero/Rock Band.

What do U guys think? Would U buy one if it ever became reality? I would. And I also think it would be a STELLAR way to introduce his music to younger generations/new fans/new listeners. I could so see that being gifted to family members too.

If so, what essential guitar songs should it include?

I feel like they approached Prince about this and he said no.

I could be wrong, however. I remember the subject used to come up regularly back when Guitar Hero and Rock Band were all the rage, about 7 years ago.

This is just going by memory but didn't he say that he'd rather children/players of that game start learning real instruments? I don't think he liked GH since they don't teach real music. Honestly I agree with him. 'Tis fun though sometimes whilst high or drunk

This is also what I recall. And it's another argument against him only being about the money. If he wanted money he could have made a shed load form a Guitar Hero game. It was reported that Aerosmith made more money form Guitar Hero than from any of their albums.

Honestly, I'm glad he didn't make that deal. I agree with him on this matter, best to learn real instruments. Not bashing GH though...was fun when I was a Pre-teen/ early teen

I think his real problem would have been giving them his multitracks.

He'd initially said in interviews that the company made $1 Billion in profits for the game and that the money that he would have made would have been a very small portion of that. However, he also said that he'd prefer if kids learn to play their own instruments as GUitar Hero and Rock Band are kind of an elaborate version of the old school "Simon" game.

To be fair though, 2 factors could squash his end of the argument that he possibly wasn't aware of, or didn't really care about:

1) As a previous poster stated, Aerosmith made more off of the Rock Band/ Guitar Hero game than they did off of any of their albums.

2) The game Rocksmith would've been a much better option, as that game usues actual guitars and basses as part of the game and you can essentially learn to play and there's no "themed" version as all the song packs are downloaded. In any case, all he'd have to do is provide multitrack masters which are digitized in a specific format for the game -- which may have been the REAL reason he turned it down. Perhaps if the estate looks into this, w'll see Prince versions of either soon. I wouldn't be surprised, given the financial benefits.

I prefer Rock Band over Guitar Hero. SO much better imo, but yes I agree I've always wished his music would be featured but I figured that would pretty much never happen. I do remember him mentioning he wasn't into it because they're not actually teaching you to play, it's so much fun though! I'm surronded by males in my family (only 2 girls out of all the grandkids) so I grew up playing video games with all of them. Rock Band was great because we all got together and played our little hearts out and battled each other good times

Maybe we'll see a P version in the future.

I think I recall him saying that it doesn't teach how to play music. And it doesn't. I was thinking more along the lines of the fun aspect and also introducing his music to more people through difference avenues.

Rocksmith would be a great idea too! I forgot about that one but very true! Will be interesting to see what things the estate will give the green light for going forward (including games, but also things like Cirque du Soleil etc).

Never knew about this one; seems like a good way for kids to have fun AND learn guitar. My son wanted Guitar Hero; I bought him a guitar instead.

I like them both! I think Guitar Hero came to mind because of the Aerosmith - full edition devoted to one musician/band. That would be what I would want if they ever DO decide on it. I ean they just did have that revival this year with the 'going live' games. They could see another revival with Prince's music. As long as they don't make any of the characters to choose to play with to look like him in any way. I don't think I could jive with that. And I definitely don't think he would either.

I agree completely! I absolutely gives you appreciation. Maybe even inspires some to pick up the real deal and start learning to play! I just always trying to think of ways for his music to reach more people - since WB fell down on that job especially with more recent releases - I think this would really do the trick!

Also on the whole video game thing the very idea makes me shudder. Maybe if U actually learned 2 play but U don't, like TrcikyChristopher said it's basically a glorified Simon game. No bueno. I don't understand the game anyway, but then again I'm from the old school video game genre of Atari (Midnight Magic, Pacman, Asteroids baby!! I still have my games and console!! ) and Gameboy. Luckily I never had an actual Gameboy hump my ass like P did.

He was asked about this in his Paris press conference interview. When asked he wasn't very happy about the thought. He asked if "U actually learn 2 play" the interviewer said "No" P then said (Para phrasing) "Well there U go....it took me a long time 2 play the Guitar the way I wanted 2. What about Lebron James? Do U think they'll ever have 'Basketball Hero'? It takes a lot of work 2 be Lebron and I admire and respect someone that put's that much work into something they love.".

That pretty much says it all right there. I hope it never happens, it'd be going against his wishes. What would be kind of cool is other Guitar players like Wendy,Levi right on up 2 Donna, make some kind of instructional video/classes at PP (?) about what P taught (as well as their own style becuz P loved their style of playing or else he'd of never have hired 'em) them maybe? That way his lessons could keep being taught keeping his style of playing (even tho NO ONE will EVER be able 2 touch him) live on. Just a thought.

I'm not a huge gamer either, but I really did enjoy Guitar Hero. I graduated from college in 2009 and the game became popular toward the end of my college years (like maybe 2007-2008 ish). I really enjoyed it! I had a friend who had the game, so I would play it with him and I also did some house sitting for extra money around 2009-2010 and would play it then also.

The game did introduce me to music that I otherwise would not know, e.g. "Slow Ride" by Foghat, "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream, but there were other songs that I already knew, e.g. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Pat Benetar.

Perhaps a Prince version of Guitar Hero could help generate money for the estate, namely the up-keep of Paisley Park.

It would have have been a great way to reach a new generation of fans.

Playing instruments came easier to Prince than most people. He had the innate talent and grew up around music because his father was a jazz musician and his mother a singer. He had the perfect combination of nature (innate talent) and nurture (opportunities to develop the talent). Of course we should encourage young people to learn instruments, but not everyone has the same opportunities or the same talent as Prince had. That said, I agree that a game like Guitar Hero could be a gateway for some young people to want to learn to play the guitar.

I agree completely with Forever Paisley that Guitar Hero and games like it build appreciation of the music. I remember being a summer camp counselor 5 years ago (2011) and the kids loved the "Michael Jackson: The Experience" music video game on the Wii! Most of these kids were born after 2000, so they wouldn't remember a lot about MJ's life first hand (especially the younger ones). But through this game, they gained an appreciation and love of his music and dance moves. And the camp counselors, myself included, loved the game too!

Exactly! Just like the MJ one introduced younger gen to the music, I think this would be a different way. Also that I selfishly want new Prince related things to keep coming out over time. So that no one is allowed to forget. He HAS to live on through his music, so new projects along with the possible annually or bi-annually - like a CD released first half of the year and a DVD release end of year - to keep the music coming. Guitar Hero would be just another way to do that.

I really like your idea of having a mature version and a 'E for everyone' version.

Geez overly sensitive much? I'm sorry about Ur injury but, calm the hell down. I was merely repeating what P himself has said about the subject (repetedly I might add, that he DOES NOT want his music used in any game like that) and agree with him.

As 2 this being a way 2 expose more ppl 2 his music I doubt any1 would buy it if they weren't P fans 2 begin with. And if they were and bought it 4 their kids then wouldn't his music be playing in the house/around said kids 2 begin with? If P wanted 2 expose his music 2 more ppl he could have done so, soooo many times/ways and did this when he was alive but he didn't. That should say something but, I'm just using common sense here.

The only way I could see this actually happening is if the estate did it soley 4 income. That doesn't mean that P's personal wishes should be given a big just 2 get cash. There R plenty of other ways 2 get cash flowing without going against the mans wishes. Just cuz 1 can get money 4 the estate doesn't mean some should do w/e the heck 1 likes cuz that's what THEY want. Then again I'm speaking from some1 who actually respects and sides with P's wishes but ya know w/e

I play guitar, and anyone who does knows that when trying to learn a song by ear, a lot of the subtleties and softer parts can get buried in the mix, and become difficult to get exact.

With Guitar Hero and Rock Band, you could rip the guitar tracks and hear every guitar note in pure clarity!

My 14 year old nephew has been a huge Aerosmith fan because of Guitar Hero. As forward thinking as he was, he missed out of pushing his music to future. Hell, when he died, a co-worker in his mid-thirties couldn't name a song.

I wonder if he knew about that. Since he was asking whether it taught kids to play a real guitar and got the answer of no, and therefore wasn't into it. Perhaps if he knew about Rocksmith that DOES teach people to play a real guitar, maybe he would have considered it. Hard to say now.
