Prince & MJ recording together in the vault maybe? Hi Guys,
Just wondering. Like the P and MJ rivaly was well known. Do you think there could have been some tracks the the two recorded togther at PP and maybe kept in the vault.

They never recorded together
They did however get close to playing together, it was that time in mid 2000's when Michael was at one of his shows, Prince walked over to him with his bass and played it very close to his face. Michael was not pleased.
The video or article talking about this is online. [Edited 8/4/16 6:37am] "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013 |

Don't think so.
Maybe Miles Davis and Madonna, but no MJ.

Prince liked to tease MJ for some reason. Perhaps he thought of it as Michaels first bass lesson.

I think he was trying to inspire Michael to make a comeback. |

This was just discussed in the last week. They didn't record songs together. Prince did re-record "Bad", and sent it to MJ, and told him that's how it should sound. It's unknown if MJ used any of those elements or ideas in his final version. The song was also sent over waaaay before BAD was released, too. Prince's version is probably in the vault somewhere.
And their only rivalry was in the media. The "Prince vs. MJ" schtick is sooooo 1984.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

I never heard about a Prince version. That would be kind of amazing to hear. I heard about him recording a version of "Like a Prayer" by Madonna. |

.
He did it to remind MJ that HE could do more than just sing and dance...at the same time.

It would have been interesting to hear them sing together. As much as I love MJ's voice in his own work, I don't think it would have done him any favours. Prince had a greater range, was more versatile, passionate and sincere......and that would have been obvious when juxtaposed in a song with MJ

Nah man, MJ in his prime could sing Prince under the table.

That'd be cool. I mean, he played on it anyway. I'm kind of surprised he never touched either of these songs in concert over the years. He incorporated "Shake Your Body" with "Mountains" in the 2010 era (among other times).

You know that had to be a satirical article right? Half the stuff is made up comedy things, the other half known parts of prince lore. |
