Baltimore, What An Amazing Song! So, I made it a point of my duty to listen to every Prince album at least 5 times without skipping any songs starting from "For You" to HitNRun Phase Two. Not necessarily in any particular order, so this week I chose to listen to Phase Two and although I've heard Baltimore before, it never really drew me, but something has been happening between Baltimore and I in my quest to honor my no skipping marathon. We've come to an understanding... It's absolutely amazing!! The funky drum beats. Prince beautiful voice. And yes, the beautiful lyrics about the social injustice that's been happening in our country. But the thing is, You can still dance to it. You can still sing along with it. And you can cry to it. Which I did, driving home in my car like a fool... Why didn't they play this beautiful song on the radio? Why wasn't such a great song a hit? The song is genius. Prince was a genius. If you didn't like Baltimore before, I double dare you to listen to it 5 times! | |

I love the song, too, and, if it had been released as a single and promoted by a major record label, it would have been a hit. Sadly, listening 2 the album makes me sad as it was the last album he released before he passed away.  "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

I'm so proud of P for creating this song Dont agree with the premise. The one song i will never listen to. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |

This is an amazing song. It is also a very special song for Prince as it showcased what he was calling a reinvention of the minneapolis sound. Specifically, he would submit the song with guitar solo to the orchestration crew, and they would create the orchestration based on his guitar solo. I like them all personally...here is why.
Graffiti Bridge - uplifting to me, works on the album perfectly. Wedding Feast - the song is meant to be an interlude, taken within the context of the overall album, it works very well Purple & Gold - Same thing, not meant to be a single, created and designed from scratch as an anthem song specifically for the vikings, I think he nailed it, it sounds exactly like a football song with a vikings theme. Only Prince could create something like this.

I didn't like the song before he passed. Since then, I've gone back and relistened and enjoyed the layering, etc of the track. For some reason, it sticks with me a lot now (and not just that I'm from Baltimore).
I wonder if his post WB will get a relook now that he is gone. I must admit, that my favorite albums were during the WB years and although I own all of the post-WB albums, I rarely listen to them.
I'll give them another spin, but some of them I know I'll never get into to. Baltimore was one of the ones that I ended up liking after reflecting on him. I love this song! I wonder if Prince had any more protest songs planned? It's the perfect kind because it has a serious message but it's still upbeat. | |

At least he has only mentioned how much he hates Hit and Run phase two once in the history of the org
