"Breakdown" - AOA

Prince dug this song.
It's the story of a woman who is breaking down his old self, breaking down the young Prince who wanted "the house with the biggest pool" and who "woke up in places you'd never believe."
He says, that's all "behind [him] now, all because of you."
He also says there's now "a door that you can walk through where there used to be a wall."

It was a single released on April 17, 2104.

Who do you think he could've written it for?

There's another thread on Breakdown with some interesting takes on its meaning. Sure, it could be just another love song, but not necessarily.

Well, so far by looking at the org threads it seems he sang it love before its release as early as July, 2013.
Also seems the live version is even better...I wish someone would put out Montreux 2013! On DVD would be the BEST (someday).

It is a truly great song and one of my favourites from Art Official Age. The way the instrumentation seems to break down and the lyrical openess is beautiful. Just how much was simply fiction we will never know.

Reads to me like a person having a reflective breakdown - looking back at their life and understanding how they have changed...

Their prorities shifted - and a bit contrite that some of their journey was wasted on chasing things of no importance

A very reflective song - and made all the more poignant since he wrote it so close to his passing

~Shakalaka!~..... ~Mayday!~

and don't forget a song that good was on one of his last albums, is there any other artist of his caliber who could still crank out good songs? Lionel Richie hasn't had a good one in decades, Stevie is about the same. Elton John? Billy Joel? Springsteen still puts out good stuff, other than that, I personally don't know of anyone. I did love Paul simons, songs from the capeman, which he probably made when he was about the same age as Prince, that was a great, great unsung album.

Are we allowed to post links to audio we find on the net?
Took me a while but I found it.

Also, I know there's a no fishing rule or something...would asking someone on the org where to get music that wasn't officially released be breaking the rules.

Yet? Do you have any info on a release? I have tried asking Montreux Jazz Festival, but I got a reply that wasn't really a reply to the question, just a link to videos not with Prince.

But Montreux 2013 is number one on my wish list, so I haven't given up hope.

Rights issues at the moment. It will come out though. It's breathtaking.

At first I thought this was about another person, but then someone mentioned it is about Prince's relationship with God. The breakdown is one of coming to recognize spiritual values--not material ones. That the lessons are learned through suffering--for Prince a breaking down of those egoisms that kept him from God.

That had to have been a challenge for a man who worked hard to control every aspect of his life rather than trusting God.What is enough and what is too much--he seemed to be working through. He seemed to be happier, more balanced in different ways as he matured. Genius seems to have its own demons that the rest of us don't grasp.

Maybe.

The pope is in Poland and told his followers, "

Later, the pontiff warned the youth against paralysis that can come from thinking the problems of the world are too large to confront. But then he warned against what he called an "even more dangerous" kind of paralysis: "to think that in order to be happy all we need is a good sofa."

"A sofa that makes us feel comfortable, calm, safe," the pope described. "A sofa like one of those we have nowadays with a built-in massage unit to put us to sleep. A sofa that promises us hours of comfort so we can escape to the world of video games and spend all kinds of time in front of a computer screen."

"It is very sad to pass through life without leaving a mark," Francis warned. "But when we opt for ease and convenience, for confusing happiness with consumption, then we end up paying a high price indeed: we lose our freedom."

"Jesus is not the Lord of comfort, security and ease," the pontiff continued. "Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage, a readiness to trade in the sofa for a pair of walking shoes and to set out on new and uncharted paths."

"God expects something from you," Francis told the young people. "God wants something from you. God hopes in you. God comes to break down all our fences. He comes to open the doors of our lives, our dreams, our ways of seeing things."

"God comes to break open everything that keeps you closed in," said the pope. "He is encouraging you to dream. He wants to make you see that, with you, the world can be different. For the fact is, unless you offer the best of yourselves, the world will never be different."

I thought of Prince.

yeahthat When I hear it especially in harmony with all the other songs of that album, I do not hear it as a man talking to a woman but he's using that analogy to basically spell out his life journey thus far. on a side note, I just cannot grow to like Breakfast Cant Wait, I mean AOA is so profound and deep and then he throws that little curve ball of a song in and leaves me going WTH? REALLY P? just totally ruins the vibe when that song comes on. I just skip over it.

Here's the live 3rdEyeG3rl version. I think I remember from listening to it the other day that image quality wasn't that great
