Much Speculation PRINCE'S Vault Catalogue Will Be at Bandier’s Sony/ATV. Wednesday, August 3, 2016
I.B. BAD: KOPPELMAN'S RETURN
PURPLE & GREEN: Charles Koppelman is back in the game. The highly regarded, once-controversial executive, who had an incredible run in the ’80s and ’90s at SBK/EMI, is said to be in charge of making deals for the Prince estate to exploit the assets and the brand. Londell McMillan, who is not that highly regarded, is also part of that team, as they try to determine the value of the vault of unreleased Prince material. The record deal is supposedly for his massive cache of unreleased recordings and the master recordings of all his previously released material, while the publishing deal—presumably for his vast catalog of released and unreleased songs—is said to be in the $20m+ range. Prince had famously been super-protective about his copyrights since the dawn of the digital age, and some critics feel that that preciousness will now be lost as the brand gets exploited. Presently, his complete discography can be streamed only on Tidal. Koppelman and Marty Bandier (shown together below in a classic gag shot with Gerardo) enjoyed a great run together as they built EMI Music Publishing into one of the great publishing companies of the modern era. Given their shared history, oddsmakers believe the Prince new publishing deal will end up at Bandier’s Sony/ATV.

I hope this is not true, as $20 million for control of Prince's vault would be criminal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moreover, why would the family want to make ANY deals that would cede copyrights????????

. UNLESS....they are purposely lowballing it to reduce the amount of estate taxes due. If they valued it at $100 million, they'd have to come up with @ $50 miillion in taxes. . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

There is a Vault sticky for just this sort of thing: http://prince.org/msg/7/428557 Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

And so begins exactly we I was afraid would happen. Inexperienced family being offered 35 cents on the $1 for P's vast intellectual property. I hope cool heads prevail and the family members don't scatter in the decision making process. That will allow vultures to take advantage of them.

... so an important info like this can get drowned in those sticky's...

on another article it stated the reason why the vault's price was much lower than expected was due to his lack of visibility with social media/streaming services the past few years, which caused the general interest to be much lower in his music sales and catalogue, due to it's inaccessability...
i remember we had a thread and large discussion does lack of social media kill prince's visibility... a lot of people argued no, and say he is still a legend, sells out concerts, etc...
but in the end, i guess it did indeed have an effect in terms of a commercial appeal and what his past music is worth... sad... but true...

But Londell and Koppleman are not inexperienced. That's where they should come in to prevent any such shenanigans. Unless...they can't be trusted.

THAT IS BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

Well, Londell has been in P's circle forever, but I dunno what the other guy's trust level or relationship to P was...Good, I hope... [Edited 8/3/16 16:29pm]
