I got back into it after I saw him and 3rd Eye Girl in Portland. He played When We're dancing Close and Slow and it just kind of struck me. I had to tell to chatty chicks to shut up so I could hear it.

Went home and listened to the disc over and over!

One of my favs!

but I gotta say: "I'm Yours" introduced us to his guitar greatness. "Bambi" solidified it.

That's pretty much all I would play and maybe I Feel For You. Since April is the first time I've really let the whole thing play back to back and kind of 'lived' with the album shrug For You I like as well

.

Don't forget the song "Still Waiting"

It is a great song and is completely over looked

.

Prince is a Great album, and yes, I came to it late.

.

1999 was my first exposure to Prince, and it is probably still my favorite, but I think that is for nostalgic reasons.

.

1 - 1999 - best song is - 'Little Red Corvette

2 - Controversy - best song is - 'Do Me Baby'

3 - Prince - best song is - 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'

4 - Dirty Mind - best song is - 'When You Were Mine'

5 - For You - best song is - 'I'm Yours'

.

I think the album 'Controversy' beats 'Prince' because of the song 'Do Me Baby' which is amazing.

.

But whenever I feel bad, I listen to 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' and it fixes me right up.

that song started a tradition of prince writing a hit song and leaving the best part of it for after the radio cut.

When We're Dancing Close & Slow was the first song after Power Fantastic & Sometimes It Snows In April that I purposely listened too.

It was his 77 demos For You & Prince music that I listened to the most after he passed. Something about the music closest to his youth and such simpleness and quiet that can be felt on these songs.

I'm Yours (For You) that's the rock introduction

i admit, i listened to for you for the first time in a while, partly because i'd downloaded it last winter, but i never liked the album as far as songs, just never liked it. everything else about the album was amazing for a 19 year old but i couldn't get into the songs since i first heard it. Baby was a winner i must admit and everything else, production, arranging, vocals was way beyond the songwriting. in some ways Prince was the opposite of that first record, simple production, i think he did the whole album in 6 weeks as opposed to 6 months for For You, but each and every song was a winner, each and every one.

I discovered Prince in middle school with the Love Symbol album and promptly bought his entire catalog. This album was the first one that I would listen to on repeat. I had a ritual where every Monday when I got home from school I would get a pizza, listen to this album and write poems. I have always thought this album was as good as Purple Rain, Sign O' the Times and all his other 80's output. Seriously a truly timeless album. I have heard With You at least 300 times and it still brings tears to my eyes.

For me "STILL WAITING" is my all time favorite tune. I still play it on piano too. I have gone for years at a time where I've listened to it everyday on repeat all day! Started listening at twelve so I'm sure by now I'm easily at over 6-10 thousand listenings. The only reason I stopped listening to it so much is because it was stopping me from listening to his other stuff! lol

Believe it or not after listening to it over and over even after thosands of times, I still end up hearing something new. Truly a testament to his unbelievable, mind altering genius!

Why did it take him dying for you to start going through his back catalog?

You are right, it is 'one' of his most balanced albums. It's a shame though fans seem to have overlooked this one as well as For You.

I never liked for you and dirty mind I thought was a weak album, yes I know it's rep, i'm just telling you my opinion. Outside of When you Were Mine, it's just got shock value and rebellion going for it. Well, Sister might be the most erotic beat he's ever come up with, it does sound like furious sex.

Thanks because I had started to think something was wrong with me because I really did not like Dirty Mind and can not understand the rave reviews. But I have come to the conclusion that music touches everyone differently. I know for certain that I love For You for purely emotional reasons.

no, we're not the only ones, there are other posters who just don't get it. It didn't sell that well but the critics loved it because, well, white critics loved rebellion in those days.
