Because the DAT intro on June 2nd failed: the intro was done when The Future started and during the first notes of the song, the DAT intro started all over again by mistake (the guy responsible was probably fired ). I've only heard the recording from the 29th but I would definitely describe it as excellent imo, sure it's not a soundboard recording but for an audience recording from the 80s it's pretty damn astounding. It also contains a really rare performance of Dorothy Parker and is well worth seeking out. Apparently the recording from the 30th is similarly excellent in quality but I can't comment on that.

I think that we can only hope that there are some video captures of gigs in the PP archive, because news coverage at the time was extremely limited. IIRC concert photographers were limited to SOTT, and that was performed mostly in in dense "fog". I don't think there are any fan captures circulating, and after all this time it would be very surprising for new fan footage to appear now.

Such a shame this landmark tour is barely documented.

It's plausible that, the movie being lip-synced (maybe not ALL of it), the original PP vocal tracks are
still somewhere on the multi-track tape, they just have been muted (unless they received the "Wally" treatment).

Given the fantastic quadriphonic sound system
of the SOTT tour, one can assume all the sound signals went through a state-of-the-art console,
possibly from a mobile recording studio truck.
I remember seeing a pic on the org of a woman resembling
Susan Rogers, with a "SOTT Tour 1987" T-Shirt, seated in front of an upright console,
with racks of pre-amps. Big fat hardware for the times, if you ask me.
Maybe all of the SOTT Tour has been professionnaly recorded and the tapes are waiting in the Vault.

Food for thought : The "U Got The Look" was filmed in Paris, June 14th 1987, after the concert.
The folks dancing in the video are lucky parisian fans that didn't leave the hall right away.

Maybe not all the final shots come from that evening, it could be half Minneapolis half Paris, but still,
everything looks undoubtely pro.

The last grainy shot (virtually all movies look grainy before mastering) of IGBABN
is a panoramic of Paris Bercy, that same evening.
Trust me, I know this for a fact, because the travelling ends on me dancing like a lunatic,
it's the shot right before "Confusion!".
I was in the first row, so the camera was placed between the stage and the front rows.
So it's highly probable that the whole Paris concert was filmed.

The week after the concert I heard from several enthusiastic sources about
the "U Got The Look" shooting (and loathed myself for leaving too early).

In the intro of "U Got The Look", when Prince is taking a nap and dreams, we have a glimpse of "Kiss",
and other brief shots of performances: maybe they have been made in PP,
but the shots of Sheena Easton driving the Citroën DS have been made in Paris for sure,
my fellow Parisians will agree. We know our city. And these shots look pro as well.
It makes little sense that Sheena took afterwards a plane to Paris with a crew just to film a few seconds.

Also, for years we thought that the only footage from the Parade Tour (outside of Cobo)
consisted in some excerpts that the national TV networks were allowed to film.

I remember seeing 30 seconds of "Raspberry Beret" from the 1986 Paris Zenith
on the evening news, on the national french TV (they were only 3 TV channels in France at the time).

I had one minute and a half of "Play In The Sunshine" on a VHS tape,
recorded on the italian TV news, from 1987 Milan's Palatrussardi.

I remember seeing 30 seconds of "Sister", from 1988 Paris Bercy.

These excerpts were aired the same evening of the first concert given in a major city,
on the national evening news.

I'm pretty sure other excerpts were aired the same ways, for other european venues.
Ol' european orgers may confirm that.

Again, it seems very odd that a full crew (pro cameras weighted a ton in the eighties)
would be moved there just to film a handful of seconds.
My guess is that there are unedited full concerts,
of all the eighties tours, laying on a shelf in the Vault.

I sure hope Bremer is currently hiring top-notch video professionals
to transfer all of this to digital.
