What the heck does Tom Petty have to do with Prince? Tom Petty never had much of a vocal range, even when I saw him perform back in 1980. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Tom Petty had Kim Basinger in a video (Last Dance With Mary Jane) and it was some tame shit;
Prince just had Kim Basinger's vocals at the end of a song and it was scandalous.

2. Triple your vocal range
Prince had unrivaled vocal command over a range spanning nearly five octaves, regularly breaking new sonic ground by transforming his voice into yet another supernatural instrument in his already stacked musical arsenal. So, yeah, big shoes to fill, but it’s not up for debate. Heavy lies the crown, Tom.

. Five words: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" . If you Google, there's an interview with everyone from that performance and their impressions of P. It's very interesting to see how other musicians with reputations perceived his artistry. Let's just say he left them in awe. |

I read somewhere that Tom Petty was not particularly pleased with Prince's participation on that GH tribute, hence him showing off and just, well, killing it. Love that performance. if this is true, then you can tell TP is kinda not too pleased with Prince, specially when you watch that lame smile of his when Prince is playing the guitaron his back while his bodyguard is holding him up. GH's son was having a blast, though. Now there's genuine awe for you. |

They're very complimentary and TP makes a point of mentioning that he was encouraging P to showboat. |
