You don't know that.

He probably didn't see the humor in parody songs, or certainly didn't want his messed with. Plenty of folks have said no to Weird Al. Al could have done it anyway, without Prince's permission. He called as a courtesy, not because of copyright issues. Parody and satire are protected as free speech, and not subject to copyright infringement. Frankly, I hope he does release the parodies he made.

And no one said he's singing Prince songs in that video anyway. Hell, there was a prince piano in some park last month that anyone could sit and play at - didn't hear anyone bitchin' then. rolleyes

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Ok..I'll clarify..I don't like him..I don't like how he makes fun of people..and Prince didn't want him to parody him. And Prince isn't here to defend himself..I feel like he is disrespecting him...that is my humble opinion....

-- We do know because Weird Al mentioned it numerous times over the years so he could PR for himself and he is doing it again. He is a tired ass cornball.

laytonian

.

There IS, however, a short video clip of Weird Al getting out of a bathtub like Prince did in When Doves Cry. It's not an entire parody...just a short intro, as I remember.

.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I thought this one by Weird Al was pretty funny, and surprised he got away with it:

Weird Al respected his wishes not to release any parody songs, he's still respecting that much: http://www.tmz.com/2016/0...ic-prince/

That's cool. He's a rich cornball. He's kept his money tight, and lives as good a life as any other successful musician.

I love Dare To Be Stupid.

And let me add, while they're playing funny or silly stuff, they are (sometimes) mimicking other people's arrangements, etc. That is no small effort. His band has very talented musicians. They've been at it 30+ years with Al, and beyond. Some of these guys are sessions musicians for folks people might not realize.

Listen girl - I have a motto that's worked well for me through the years: "If you can't laugh at yourself, I will." Madonna, MJ, and everyone else survived being made fun of a bit over the years. Prince could've taken a hit for the team. This is fun. This is music. No one's wearing a red dress to the funeral, drinking Cristal from their purse.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

-- And I guess other musicians who actually come up with their own music instead of rearranging others people stuff are ready to live in the poor house? I never said he was not talented he figured out to make a living all this time being a being a cornball. The media loves building up corny and useless artist. How do explain Bieber and Timberlake.
