according to Susan Rogers, he was crazy about Karma Chameleon and once left the warehouse while he left it playing on repeat. Rogers thought that he may have done it just to get on her nerves. At any rate, Prince used to tell interviewers that he didn't listen to anyone else's music. I always thought that that could not have been true because his production style was contemporary enough to where it was obvious he listened to the sounds around him. Oddly, he never outgrew this sentiment, he said he never had time to listen to new music because he was always working on some himself. I never bought that for a second. He did listen to other people's music despite what he said. I read an interview with Paloma Faith and when she met him she said he was already aware of her music and said he liked it. Baby, you're a star.

I do think he wasn't as up on current music as many people, but i'm sure he always had his ears open for a good thing.

his voice is in horrible shape. I think maybe he wasn't that great of a singer to begin with though. I remember his live shows in the 80's he was hoarse and raspy most of the time. If you are on your game, you don't get like that unless you are just really, really overusing your voice. Springteen and Prince were in good form most of the time even though they had grueling multi-hour shows, you can't do that if you're voice isn't conditioned. I think George got over as a novelty, a brit who sang american soul. That's not to discredit the wonderful songs he wrote, a couple of his songs are absolute classics but he didn't keep on top of his craft.

leadline said: Many artists have jumped on the Prince death tribute bandwagon, a lot to simply sell more tickets.....there is a very disengenuous side to a lot of these tributes that is being missed. Boy George was perfoming in Minneapolis so he decided to make a tribute. I bet if he or other people didn't make a tribute people would be hating too. Love is God,

honestly,I don't think any artist or band is gonna sell more tickets simply because they add a Prince song to their show. That's a silly assumption.
